From the Mission Fields CHRISTMAS AT BESTHESDA “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). With thes words in hearts and minds, we at Bethesda celebrated the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with joy and thanksgiving. The account of Christs birth was read and pondered by all of us during the week of Christmas. We were, like everyone, reminded of His birth through the medium of television, by the caroling of many groups, and by way of the Vesper service that was held in our Home on Christmas eve. We shared Christmas eve with the residents of our Home, their families and with our church fellowship. It was a meaningful celebration during which carols were sung, scripture was read and the real meaning of Christmas was presented to those present by Dr. Ladislau Biro. The evening was brought to a climax with the serving of hot tea, coffee and delicious pastries provided by the Home and friends. The love of many friends, local churches and organizations was shown by the presentation of special music, flowers, clothing, cookies and candy to our Home residents. We are so grateful to God for the abundance of blessing and joys that He had bestowed upon us by His people throughout our great country and Canada. People take note of the tender loving care given to our loved ones, and as a result they wish to become a part as providers of joy. Local church groups and civic organizations saw to it that no one without a family was forgotten at this season of the year. Then too, many of you had contributed money during the month and throughout the entire year to guarantee the little extras for our residents. This we did in the form of special food, personal gifts to the needy and a stocking filled with goodies for each of our residents. The love of God is made manifest to our people in many ways. We concern ourselves with their spiritual welfare, their physical and emotional well being. It is difficult to make known the love of God to a person who is in pain, neglected or completely forgotten without also providing tender loving care. We, as a Home try extremely hard to do all we can for our residents. Our staff is specially trained to take note of problems that may develop and to take corrective action whenever possible. At times we may feel that our work is not valued or appreciated. Then, we receive a letter such as the following which dispels any doubt regarding the services that we provide. "Dear Mr. and Mrs. Kish—In our simple way we want you to know how we feel about Bethesda. Our health is gone and we are aged. We need a place to rest and feel the comforts and security of a place like this. We feel so indebted to all of your aides, they are so kind and thoughful. The food is good, and much thought and planning goes into entertaining the residents. We are thankful to be here during the last part of our lives, and we are fortunate to have you and Mrs. Kish with us. We wish you and your family the happiest of Holidays. Most Sincerely with love, Jessie and Harry Dover” May God bless all of you, who help make our mission with the aged as effective as it is. Please continue to pray for us and may the new year bring to all of you happiness, good health and the blessings of God. Ernest J.
