1973. július 15. EVANGÉLIUMI HÍRNÖK 7. oldal Hírek A régi biblia. Johann Gutenberg, a könyvnyomtatás feltalálója három évig dolgozott a Szentírás nyomtatásán. Ez idő alatt kb. 190 példányt készített. Ezeket a Bibliákat "Gutenberg Biblia”nak nevezik. 1455-ben jelentek meg. Ma már csak 47 példány fennmaradásáról tudunk. Ezek közül 17 az Egyesült Államokban van. • Katolikus pünkösdiek gyűlése a Notre Dame Egyetem területén. 20.000 római katolikus pünkösdi, köztük 600 pap és hat püspök tartott konferenciát június 1—3 között az egyetem sport stadionjában. A nyelveken szóló, kegyelmi ajándékokkal bíró tömeg előadásokat hallott arról, hogy a mozgalom átveheti az egész katolikus egyházat észak Amerikában. A gyűlésen résztvevő újságírók, vallásos rovatok szerkesztői mondták, hogy a katolikus papság és felsőbb papság növekvő mértékben támogatja a karizmatikus mozgalmat. Szerintük ez a mozgalom a katolikus egyház fejlődésében a leghatásosabb mozgató erő lesz. • Evangéliumi munka a Németországban dolgozó török munkások között. A Mennonita Belmisszió, a Finn Misszió és a német Misszió Társaság együttesen missziómunkát kezdett a török munkások között, akik Dachau környékén dolgoznak. Egy finn ifjúsági csoport már előbb érintkezésbe került a török munkásokkal s előkészítette a talajt intenzívebb evangéliumi munkára. (A törökök mohamedánok, köztük a keresztyén miszszió eddig még nem nyert alapot. Istambul városán kívül alig létezik keresztyén egyház, vagy gyülekezet Törökországban. Eszünkbe jut a magyar baptista misszió története: a múlt század közepén több magyarországi munkás ment ki Németországba és ott megtért. Amint visszatértek, megkezdték a munkát. Record Offering for Missions The 1972 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for Foreign Missions topped its $18 million goal by more than $1% million. Total funds received had reached $19,664,972 when books were closed on April 30. Receipts were nearly $2 million more than the 1971 offering. The Lottie Moon Offering is sponsored annually by the Woman's Missionary Union in Southern Baptist churches of the USA. It is made in connection with a Week of Prayer for foreign Missions. Slightly more than half the yearly support of the denomination’s Foreign Mission Board comes from the offering. (EBPS) More Alcoholics Reported According to a recent report in the Swiss Evangelical Press Service, the number of alcoholics in Switzerland has increased from 50.000 at the end of World War II, to a figure of 125,000 today. Wine consumption has gone up 27 per cent over the last 20 years, while beer sales have doubled. From 1933—38, yearly deaths from cirrhoses of the liver averaged 229. Between 1966 and 1971, this ailment caused 749 deaths yearly, a 227 percent increase. In West Germany, with a tenfold greater population, there are approximately 600,000 alcoholics. In France there are an estimated 2,000,000 alcoholics 4,500,000 excessive drinkers, of whom 2,000,000 are classed as alcoholics. The federal drug commission has recently rated alcohol dependance as America’s primary drug problem. The United States counts 9,000,000 alcoholics amongst its population. (EBPS) • Baptists Are Summoned to Exert Influence in Areas of Need Chicago (BP)—Representatives of seven Baptist conventions in the United States and Canada have called upon Baptists of North America "to exert a dynamic new spiritual, moral, and social influence in the communities and areas of critical need.” The group met in Chicago at the call of Kenneth L. Chafin of Houston, North American regional director of the World Mission of Reconciliation Through Jesus Christ, a program of the Baptist World Alliance. "Rejoicing that Baptists, irrespective of race or nationality enjoy a new sense of brotherhood in their common faith and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, we therefore call upon all Baptist churches and conventions of North America to engage in a more meaningful relationship of joint ministry and witness and in sharing our resources and strengths for the mutual benefit of all. "Possible activities for church involvement include: "l.A prayer partnership with churches of other countries and conventions. “2. Mass distribution of scripture related to the reconciliation theme. "3. Lay evangelism training and practice. "4. Interracial fellowships and Bible studies. Baptist groups represented at the meeting were the Baptist Federation of Canada, the Baptist General Conference of America, the General Association of General Baptists, the North American Baptist General Conference, the Progressive National Baptist Convention, the American Baptist Churches in the USA, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Baptist World Alliance. • French Reformed Church Affirms Priesthood of Believers A "pastoral crisis” retained much attention during recent sessions of the 66th Synod of the French Reformed Church at La Grande Motte. During the past five years at least forty pastors have renounced the "traditional ministry," delegates were informed, and last year the Church could claim only a dozen theological students. A declaration on the Ministry approved by the Synod affirmed the fundamental conviction of the Reformers that all believers are priests, and that the presence of Christ is not tied to one man.
