Éva Schmelczer-Pohánka A Copy of the Second Edition of the Missal of Pécs in Pannonhalma The Missal of Pécs – the incunabulummissal, the only traceable document of the mediaeval local liturgy in the use of the Diocese of Pécs – was ordered by Zsigmond Ernuszt, the Bishop of Pécs (1473–1505). The incunabula were published in two editions: in Basel in 1487, and in Venice in 1499. The only copy of first edition of the Missal of Pécs is available in Wolfenbüttel. As for the second edition, only four copies are known about in Hungary: the decorated copies of parchment can be accessed in the Diocesan Archives of Pécs (the copy of the former public diocesan library of Pécs), in the National Széchényi Library, and in the Library of the Archabbey of Pannonhalma, while the only papercopy without decoration is available in the National Széchényi Library. The present paper, after a short introduction to the Missal’s two editions, primarily considers the unique bibliographical characteristics of the Missal of Pécs preserved in Pannonhalma, then its history of getting into the Library of the Archabbey of Pannonhalma is traced besides a tentative reconstruction of the copy’s appearance and documentation in historical bibliography.
