Soltészné Lédeczi Judit - Takács Miklós (szerk.): A ceglédi Kossuth Lajos Gimnázium Leánykara (Cegléd, 1994)

The Qirls Choir of Kossuth Lajos Secondary Grammar School The first choir with only boys was founded more than 75 years ago at the Kossuth Lajos Secondary Grammar School in Cegléd. Since then the choir has been working constantly, with changes only in its membership. The boys choir was widened into a mixed choir, and for the last 25 years the institution has had only girls choir since its becoming a "female majority", Our school does not specialize in music. The students are aged between 14 and 18, Its is not compulsory to sing in the choir. Probably because of the good results, it is enough to make an announcement at the beginning of the academic year, and we can choose from the applicants, At present we have 70 members. 60 students appear at our performances and 40 comprise the contest choir, To get promoted to the contest choir one must take part in all the rehearsals and perform individually for the director, We have two hour long rehearsals once a week, where we prepare for the perormances with hard work. The repertoire of the choir is very wide and colouful. There are the gems of classical choral music, from Renaissance music to the music of our time. We sing the works of Kodály and Bárók with distinguished care, but we are also happy to sing pieces of contemporary Hungarian and foreign composers. We think our most valuable success is the fact that many of our members take an active part in amateur choral activity after secondary school. 7
