8 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD UPDATE FROM Dr. ISTVÁN KOMJÁTHY Medical Missionary in Beregszász December 28, 2009 Dear Friends of Hungarian Missions! I recently brought my Mother, the Very Reverend Ilona Molnár Komjáthy to the Transcarpathian Ukraine for the first time! She walked from the parked rented car at the Hungarian border into the Ukraine in very cold weather and successfully completed the journey from Pittsburgh to Beregszász. We thank Missionary David Szekeres for assisting us in the border crossing during a driving snowstorm. Together my Mother and I attended the Bucsu Hungarian Reformed Church and heard Pastor Vince Pocsai preach an excellent Biblical Sermon. We then ventured to Dobrony to visit with the legendary Bishop Horkai and also László Katko the General Manager of the Hungarian Reformed Orphanage. We are just amazed at the genius and grace of the Bishop as well as the energy and the ingenuity of László Katko in running the Orphanage and spreading the Gospel! Additionally, my Mother and I were able to purchase a new computer for the Bishop so that he can continue to quickly work on his music (he has recently translated some Korean Hymns into Hungarian!) and to assist him in efficiently putting together his daily sermons. Many thanks to Gyuri and Józsi Bácsi for putting together such an excellent computer for the Bishop! My Mother also had the opportunity to visit with Bela Nagy and thank him for all the support he has provided relative to my work as a Medical Missionary. Thanks be to God for giving my Mother the strength and fortitude for this trip after enduring 3 brain surgeries less than 18 months ago! David Szekeres also made arrangements so that I was able to perform some Ultrasound screenings at the “Nagyberegi Református Líceum” which is headed by Pastor László Toth. I examined the Pastor and Headmaster first and over several days I was able to exam the entire educational and support staff and some students. I performed cardiac, abdominal and carotid Ultrasounds on about 50 people. Also with the aid of David Szekeres I was able to examine the family and staff of Terra Dei. Terra Dei is an ingenius program where Agricultural experts from around the world help the local farmers maximize the growth potential of their farms through the use of modem scientific methods. I thank Nurse Rita Nagy from the Beregszász Pediatric Hospital who assisted me. Additionally, I visited the Beregszász Hospital and donated funds for the further completion of the Children Hospital. The Mission desperately needs a CT Scanner! My prayers are that those who read this will hear God’s call to donate what they can, as any amount large or small makes a big difference. With your kind help and generosity we can purchase a used (to keep the cost down) CT Scanner so that we can be even more effective in treating disease and saving lives in Beregszász. Donations may be made by PayPal through my website. Please go to the Help Us page. (And as a small incentive, if you donate $200 or $2000 US dollars you will receive an antique golf ball from my collection.) Web address: iwmKomiathvNutriceuticals.com Or you may also send a check to the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, 221 Johnston Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15207. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support and may God bless you for your kindness and generosity as you answer His call to help purchase a CT Scanner for the Medical Mission in Beregszász! Wishing you His peace and blessings! Áldást, békességet! István F Komjáthy MD The Very Reverend Ilona Komjáthy crossing into the Ukraine Road from Beregszász to Nagybereg Nurse walking to work T
