CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 9 Christ is Risen! There is no Christianity without the resurrection of Jesus. It is biblically and historically the foundation of the Church. It is presupposed in every part of the New Testament and it is appealed to as a most certain fact that confirms other facts. To the women who saw the empty tomb and the disciples to whom Jesus appeared, He was all He claimed to be: Messiah, Savior, Son of God, Lord. So through history and around the world on Easter Day, we proclaim our bed-rock faith: “Christ is Risen!” If we really believe this, then nothing can keep us from the Lord’s Supper on Easter Day to meet the resurrected Jesus in the blessed sacrament of His body and blood. Much of what the Bible demands can be comprised in one word, “Remember.” Jesus himself said, as He shared the Last Supper, “Do this remembering me.” However, we must note that the Christian life is not a mere memory. It is a memorial and a witness - of Him as He is, and a union with Him, as He acts. Holy Week and Easter are important times of remembrance and reflection. May our life together in the community of faith be a living reminder of all that Christ has done for us and means to us.
