CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 7 Stephen Szabó, John Thomas, Francis Vitéz Calvin Synod Banquet, Walton Hills, OH (May 2), 2000) Calvin Synod Herald - Reformátusok Lapja Report - 2000 We are greatly thankful to our Heavenly Father for His patience and help for the survival of our church paper and for the observance of its 100th Anniversary. We are also greatly indebted to our former Editor, Dr. Stephen Szabó for his invaluable service to the paper as editor and publisher. He is well versed in publishing, and the paper became better and better. We regret that he gave up the editorship so soon, not even waiting for the 100th Anniversary of the paper! We thank him greatly for his accomplishment, and also his family who participated in his management of the paper. We wish him many more years in his “true retirement” and ask the Lord to give him good health, cheerfulness and to be prePhiladelphia Hungarians Greet Millenium in Ecumenical Worship A joint Protestant - Roman Catholic worship service was set for the first Sunday in September, uniting the greater Philadelphia area Hungarian community in worship to open the new Millennium. The twelve-thirty Service at the Clading Memorial Presbyterian Church brings together the Rev’s Sándor Mészáros and Ken Wells, the church’s choir, and two priests for a celebration of the Christian faith, said Dr. Mészáros. Prior to the Worship Service there will be a bake sale of Hungarian pastries, and afterward a brief Hungarian program and social hour. The event is open to all, with a half of the scheduled events in English. Mr. János Kish is the Chief Elder of the Hungarian Reformed Church Fellowship meeting regularly at the Cheltenham Avenue site. pared, in case the present editor and assistant get too old, to be ready to resume his editorship. At the present, since we are “new again” in publishing, we do not have much to report, but we have some recommendations to share with the Synod meeting: 1. We wish and ask the representatives of our churches to subscribe to the paper. Actually every member, or every family should subscribe, most certainly all the elders of our churches. 2. We ask our ministers to let us know if anything interesting happens in our churches that we want to share with the readers. 3. We are here at the Hundredth Anniversary of our paper. We are not sure if we will be here for the next hundredth! Therefore we should observe in our congregations this anniversary and send a nice “Birthday Gift” to the paper, since we need not just readers but also money to publish the paper. So, let’s have a Happy 100th Anniversary for the paper! 4. In Hungarian paper - papír - means that the pap, that is your minister can write - pap ír - but somehow our paps do not ír... Please write and send short but well prepared articles in English or Hungarian to the Editor. We live in a free country but we know well that nothing is free... We work, we pay and we make sacrifices. Do something for the paper. Get at least one new reader every month and a new subscriber... Be a helping hand... We are sending the paper to 43 countries, free of charge. It is necessary, that we continue this work because we are still the “only free and independent voice” of our beloved church and nation, and of our Lord Jesus Christ. We were and we are in His service. Help us to continue His work. Francis Vitéz, Editor ORDERBLANK - MEGRENDELŐLAP Rev. Albert W. Kovács 94 N.
