Szüreti Bál Celebrated in Ohio The annual Szüreti Bál was held on Sunday, September 16,2001 at St. Margaret’s Church in Orange Village, Ohio. It was a day filled with activities, fun and fellowship. The cookout was enjoyed by a faithful crowd of 300-400 people that attends this event each year. Jolán Abel, Br. Manager, Br. 4 Dinner Dance Sponsored by the Kossuth Club of the Western PA Branches On September 14th, 2001 at the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of Duquesne, PA the branches of the HRFA in and around Pittsburgh established the Kossuth Club to further the fraternal activities in Pittsburgh and vicinity. Their first fraternal joint event was the Hungarian dinner dance held at the Hungarian Club in Hazelwood, Pittsburgh. The menu consisted of home-made meat sausage (kolbász) and rice sausage (hurka). The side dishes were potato and sauerkraut. Delicious pastries baked by the ladies topped off this wonderful dinner. The Palló Folk Ensemble from Transylvania, Romania, provided the entertainment. Their music brought back many fond memories as they were playing those songs we heard and sang in the old country in our younger years. Their music also enticed the guests to take their partners to the dance floor and rediscover their abilities to dance “chardas.” Credit as well as appreciation should be given for the preparation of food and organizing the dinner dance to Mrs. Clara V. Csikesz and her husband Bela, Mr. Joseph Fabri and his wife Peggy, Mr. Joseph Berei and his wife Mitzi, Mrs. Olga Damay and her sister, Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Posta, and Rev. and Mrs. Alexander Jalso. The meat sausage (kolbász) was made by Rev. Dr. Posta and his wife and the rice sausage (hurka) by Mr. and Mrs. Csikesz. They were so good at preparing these delicacies that even before the dinner was over many guests hoped to purchase several pounds of “leftovers”, hoping that there will be plenty. In some cases the expected amount had to be reduced to satisfy as many people as possible. Children of Branch 4 performing at the Szüreti Bál. 53
