Bethlen Almanac 2001 (Ligonier)

Közép Egyházmegye - Central Classis

It was with extreme Christian joy this year that two confirmands testified of their living faith in Jesus Christ. Their outstanding recitation of the Heidelberg Catechism, their Biblical and Church history knowledge spoke of a deep trust and a knowledgeable faith. Therefore, Daniel Vargo and Gregory Murphy were accepted into full voting membership, and were received amidst great Christian gratitude to God for adding to our numbers. The work of the church can be seen in our mission projects both domestic and international. The particular mission projects this year were the Tisza Relief Fund; operation Shoebox Fund; the supporting of the Partium Choir from Transylvania; the Attack on America Fund and our White Gifts at Christmas which were donated to the needy in our community. Thus the mission of the church in obedience to the commandments of Jesus Christ steadily goes forth in both weekly proclamation and in concretized acts of charity. Our local outreach work also included the unity services of the local churches sponsored by the Hazelwood Ministerium. The congregational community building activities of our church encompass our major fund raising and social gatherings. In such a way, our food sales and Harvest Dance (Szüreti Bál) became extensions of the congregation’s unique mission of the gathering and the re-gathering of the flock. We are grateful for all those who so tirelessly gave of their time, effort and finances, but special acknowledgment needs to be given to our newly elected Chief Elder, Frances Matthews and Vice-Elder Margaret McNellis and our valued Hungarian Vice-Elder, Frank Petohazi. The faithfulness of our Church Secretary, Patricia McClean and our Church Treasurer, Julie Olah was in weekly evidence. The tireless work of Bert and Julie Olah is the printing of the weekly bulletin, our newsletters throughout the year, and the publishing of the yearly report greatly enhanced the work and outreach of our congregation. In addition it was the dedication of all our faithful elders that allowed the regular and smooth functioning of the congregation’s activities. Mention needs to be made of those entrusted with the care and maintenance of our property, especially Mr. Andy Gall and Mr. Joe Vargo, and our other fine trustees. Their work resulted in the building and completion of our ramp for the physically disabled to have access to Calvin Hall. May God continue to bless our congregation with truly such fine leadership. 113
