Bethlen Almanac 2001 (Ligonier)

Közép Egyházmegye - Central Classis

Our sanctuary’s beauty is witnessed especially at Christmas and Easter with the display of the appropriate flowers. This beauty was especially seen this year when God blessed us with the wedding of the pastor’s daughter, Victoria Komjáthy to Christopher Beckage. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Louis Medgyesi participated in the ceremony and Mrs. Medgyesi graced us by her presence. May God add His blessing to the Beckage’s covenant of marriage. As we rejoiced in the marriage ceremony, so as a congregation, we sorrowed with those who sorrowed. In like accord then we buried five of our members under the hope of the blessed resurrection: Floyd E. Bell, Joseph DeTilla, Brian DeTilla, Zoltán Varga, Sr. and Andrew Kovács. A.B.F.R.A. The pastor also officiated at the burial service of the friends and relatives of our congregation members. May the God of comfort be with all those who mourn. Members of our congregation visited the wider circle of Hungarian Reformed Churches and were faithful in attending meetings of the Central Classis and The Calvin Synod Conference at which our pastor was ordained. At two separately held elections this summer, the pastor was elected as the ordained minister of the church and as the Dean of the Classis. Our several bus trips were successful church outings. Their scope included such diverse trips as venturing to Niagara Falls, to the Partium Choir in Ligonier, PA, to the picnic grounds of the William Penn Fraternal organization at Scenic View, and to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of the Bethlen Home’s founding and in rejoicing in the anniversary worship service held at our church to honor Dr. Kalassay. Friends from both fraternal organizations as well as the sons of former superintendents, George Varga and Joseph Kecskemethy, enhanced this anniversary service. Sunday School. 114
