The Bethlen Home
THE BETHLEN HOME On the Changes at the Bethlen Home In the 76-year history of the Bethlen Home, the only constant has been change. From its founding in 1921 as a Children’s Home of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, the Bethlen Home has continuously dealt with alterations and expansions of its facilities, functions and programs. In this period of time, we have witnessed changes and challenges that have ranged from the establishment of the Old Age Home and the summer Youth Camp in 1931, and the modernization and expansion of the Old Age Home in 1956, to the establishment of a modern 100-bed Nursing Home in 1968, and the closing of the Children’s Home as well as the building of the Retirement Village in 1978. The important work of planning for the future of the Bethlen Home continues today as evidenced by its recent identification as a priority of concern by the 35th Convention of the Federation of America. Currently, we are focusing on two important areas: 1) Planning for the much needed new construction and renovation of our present Nursing Home facilities. 2) The establishment of an assisted living program in order to complement the already successful Retirement Village and nursing care program. The assisted living program with separate living units would make the Bethlen Home a “total care” facility. The goals of the Federation and its leadership, together with the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home and its managerial team, are to insure that the Bethlen Home will continue to be one of the best providers of care for our elderly American-Hungarian brethren in all of the United States who may want to use our facilities and services in the future. May God bless us in this endeavor. George Dózsa, Chairman Board of Directors, the Bethlen Home 39
