But we know that in Christ’s eyes, it is not the sex but the heart which determines our standing in God’s kingdom. Our Ladies Aid celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary on November 9, 1980. The ladies have worked long and hard for the benefit of the church, and as in all congregations, are a vital part of the Church’s life. Celeb­rating with us were Rt. Rev. Desmond D. Parragh, Bishop of the Calvin Synod, Rev. Victor Orth, pastor of the Lynwood, Illinois (Chicago South Side) congregation, Rev. Alfonse Skerl, pastor of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church of East Chicago, Indiana, and Mr. Stephen Slakovita, student pastor in Kalamazoo, Michigan. For this special occasion the Ladies Aid presented to the church the United Church of Christ flag, to be flown along with the flag of the United States. It was a very fitting celeb­ration for our dedicated women. This past year we joined with our sister churches on several occasion. We shared with the Faith United Church of Christ in Hammond to com­memorate their anniversary in September, we were in Indiana Harbor to celebrate the March 15 commemoration with them, and we joined with Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in East Chicago when the celeb­rated their Seventy-Fifth Anniversary in August, 1980. In October we joined with the Indiana Harbor church for the installation of their new pastor. Unfortunately, we were also called to the Hammond church for a memorial service upon the death of their pastor, the former Bishop of the Calvin Synod, Rt. Rev. Arpad Beretz, to Flint, Michigan for the
