224 BETHLEN NAPTÁR The new Old People’s Home, built to the original Home in 1951. In general, the health of our children was good. There were no epidemics of contagious diseases or illnesses of a serious nature. We did have a number of sore throats and ears due to colds, however. A number of our children received dental and eye care. Illness among our old people was more prevalent, naturally. Medi­cal and hospital care were very often necessary. Mrs. Margaretta Road­man, nurse on our staff, has taken charge of our bed-ridden patients, administering all the professional care necessary. She personally is in charge of diets. Bed-ridden patients averaged between 8 and 12 in number during 1952. 23 received medical care, of which 8 were hospital­ized. These statistics clearly indicate that work in our old folks’ depart­ment could not be adequately carried on without a full-time overseer and permanent nurse whose duty it is to see to the spiritual and phy­sical wellbeing of our aged. Our new building and a nurse in charge have proved a blessing to our aging and sick guests.
