Snapshots of life in the Bethlen Home

BETHLEN NAPTÁR 225 all or part of their summer vacation periods with us. 50 old guests received care, bringing our total enrollment up to 94. Seven children left the home during the course of the year. Six old people died and 2 left the institution of their own free will. On December 31, 1952 our enrollment was 28 children and 42 old people. Our staff included the following: superintendent and overseer; office help, George Uzonyi; supervisor of children, Mrs. Bela Miron; (4) Mrs. Imre Gacsalyi, cook, and Mrs. Mary Szabó, housekeeper, in the children’s home; (2) Mrs. Margaretta Roadman, nurse; Mrs. Ida Orosz, cook, and Mrs. Kathryn Zettl, housekeeper, in the old folks’ home; (3) Walter Springer, farm foreman, and Louis Puskas, farmhand; (2) Staff and employees numbered 11. Two women were employed for part-time work: Mrs. Frank Campbell in the children’s home and Carrie McKlveen in the home for the aged. It is with pride that I report that each staff member and employee gave his best work toward the maintenance of our high standard of living and one could always sense their feeling of deep responsibility toward our institution. All of us tried to give our dependents, old and young, a warm, comfortable home, an adequate and varied Hungarian diet, as well as Christian nurture and care. In addition to the physical and spiritaul care of our guests, our aim has been to instill in them a desire for order and respect so that they might experience a feeling of contentment, thus awakening in them a feeling of gratitude toward God and their benefactors.
