2 (6) Research worn assigned by Professor Winterkorn, concerning the conditions of state of macromeritic liquids. An apparatus to investigate the behavior of sands in the case of double shear has been made; some preliminary tests have been carried out. The theoretical and experimental results will be published in appropriate scientific and engineering Journals. (7) Preparing manuscrips and drawing figures of the following scientific and engineering papers: a) Contribution to the Investigation of Granular systems: This paper will be presented at the 43rd Annual Meeting, Highway Research Board, January 13-17, 1964, Washington,D.C. b) Some Characteristics of Packings. To be presented at the International Symposium "Rheology and Soil Mechanics" of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics to be held in Grenoble, France, in April, 1964. c) Settlement of buildings on Collapsible Soils. Paper to be presented at the ASCE Settlement Conference in June, 1964, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. d) The Strength of Soil Cement. (With Dr. S. Brahma. Paper to be presented in Madras, India, at a Seminar on Engineering Materials. (Industrial & Scientific Research Association, Madras, India.) In view of the number and variety of Professor Kezdi's activities, the high quality of his lectures and research papers is especially remarkable. This high quality pervaded every phase of Professor Kezdi's work, from scientific content and precise logical presentation of scientific argument to his well drawn illustrations. Professor Kezdi's performance in Princeton testified to great native gifts, developed by strict mental discipline and excellent working habits. In the relatively short time he has been in Princeton, Dr. Kezdi became a highly esteemed colleague and made worthwhile contributions to the scholarly and scientific atmosphere of the Department of Civil Engineering through his well thought out and well presented lectures.
