ATTILA SZABÓ THE END OF SOCAGE ON THE HEAD-CHAPTER'S LAND OF KALOCSA The head-chapter's lands (Császártöltés, Dusnok, Kecel, Lak, Szentbenedek and Uszod) were separated from the archbishop's lands in the period between 1832 and 1835. The landlord entered into an agreement with the former copy-holders in 1856 and 1857. Commutation has to be paid (on the basis of agreement) after the other plough-lands and meadows used by the copy-holders. The prescribed pastureseparation was part of the agreement too. Lands in regions of villages were small because the connected chapter's lands laid usually in plains. The question of vinelevy in the two vine-producing villages (Császártöltés and Kecel) was arranged by agreement too. The smaller usufruct of the king was kept by the manor till the later arrangement. Paying the instalments of the commutation was a very serious burden for the dwellers of villages. The liberation from the constraints of socage brought the need for the development of agriculture system. The alteration of cultivation in the country could be started just after the socage-suits when the consolidation of holdings and the partition of pastures had been done. The size and proportion of plough-land grew at the expense of the pastures' size as a consequence of the consolidation of holdings. As the size of the pastures lessened the livestock-farming lessened too. ANDRÁS ÁDÁM THE HISTORY OF THE FUNERAL SUBSIDIARY ASSOCIATION OF KECSKEMÉT BETWEEN 1836 AND 1868 The funeral association is the oldest and most frequent form of mutual help based on civil union. In our country the flourrishing of association movement started by Széchenyi István's work in the reform era and it was the cause of the spreading of funeral associations too. The first association of Kecskemét was founded under the name of „Funeral Subsidiary Association" in 1836. It was founded by Sámuel Séllyey because of the cholera epidemic that raged at that time. The Funeral Subsidiary Association of Kecskemét worked undisturbed till 1849. Later it was afflicted by deaths and the the trouble was increased by financial crisis and a following impoverishment after the war of independence. The number of members started to decrease, more and more people coluldn't afford the obligatory fees. The association worked for almost 30 years, during this time it had 1064 members and among them 765 were buried by the help of the association.
