Similarly to Kos' view of the Kalotaszeg/Tara Cälatei region, the Zoo also is not complete without a castle ruin. The artificial ruin assemblage placed on a likewise artificial hill adjacent the railway lines had a double function: it blocked the railway from sight and was home to the canine kennels. It has been renovated several times over the years, but the main components have largely preserved their original form.
