tant incident: when the estate of the artist and collector Lorenz Gedon was put up for auction in Munich, as well as bidding for furniture on behalf of the Museum of Applied Arts, Uhl also purchased a good number of metal rails (stair railings, consoles, etc.) from different periods in the history of wrought iron.36 Among the drawings in the museum’s data archives, there are a number for works of wrought iron, including a design by Uhl.37

Among the many artisans who applied to take part in the temporary “alternating exhibition” of modern industrial and applied arts, to be held in the newly rented premises in the Old Music Academy building, was one of the most important craftsmen of the age, Gyula Jungfer, an acknowledged master of his profession, who had held the presidency of the craft union of metalworkers for almost two decades.38
