New acquisitions

NEW ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT OF CERAMICS Beaker (A) (B) Erfurt (?), Thuringia, 1736 Marked. On the bottom the letter W is painted in blue over the glaze. Faience, colourfully painted, with a hinged, domed, pewter lid Height: 19.5 cm, with the lid: 25.2 cm; diame­ter of the base: 11.6 cm The handle of the tall, cylindrical vessel is broad and arched. On the side of the vessel, in yel­low and iron-red paint with manganese contours and shading, is a crowned, two-headed imperial eagle. Above it, on a scroll, is an inscription: 17/ VIVAT CAROLUS ;DER;VI / 36. Between the eagle's talons can be seen on the left a Prussian sceptre and on the right an orb. On either side of the eagle there is, in coloured paint, a flower-stem with flowers branching outwards from it. ^
