Uzume with a mushroom. Wood. Height: 4,8 cm. (Fig. 18) A tiny barefooted country girl is carrying a huge mushroom on her back. The carving is not detailed, except for the face made of ivory, which is finely elaborated. Signature on the back: Minko. Worked at the end of the 18th century. Shisi-mai. Ivory. Height: 6,6 cm. (Fig. 19) A nice example of Japanese humour, a monkey is dancing the lion dance. An elegant, artistic carving, with no protruding details. Unsigned. 125
