Éva and Zoltán Molnár, owners of the LITTLE EUROPE Restaurant, provided the hungarian community of the Washington area with the great pleasure of meeting and listening to one of Europe's finest accordionists, Michael Tabányi. With his delightful wife Erna, who speaks six languages, they came to this country for a one month visit at the invitation of their long-time friends the Molnárs. For Mike the highlight of the visit was meeting his idol Art Van Damme, famous accordionist in the U.S., whose fan-club he presides over in Hungary. Friends and members of the hungarian community gathered at the LITTLE EUROPE Restaurant, 3018 Annandale Road, Falls Church, Virginia, for a private party. The food was excellent and in a friendly atmosphere Mike played the most memorable tunes exhibiting his mastery even over a borrowed instrument. Erna and Mike returned to Hungary with lasting impressions of their visit, especially Mike, who in his ten-gallon-hat, cowboy boots and western attire looked every inch a Texas tycoon. We will revisit the Little Europe Restaurant, especially during this bicentennial year, to enjoy once more the friendly hospitality of Éva and Zoltán, the good food, and to revive some very pleasant memories. Since the writing of the above article, the sad news reached us that 1, 1976, Erna Tabányi, age 36, passed away due to a sudden illness. For those who knew her and even those who just met her she was a dear treasured friend and her death fills us with undeniable shock and sorrow.
