The bishop addressed a workshop in Amsterdam on Tuesday, AMSTERDAM ’86 — Billy Graham a romániai küldöttséggel — Billy Graham with a romanian delegation (7 people). From left to right: Eugen Bortos (Roman Catholic), Alexandru Tudor (Orthodox), Bishop Nifon Mahita (Orthodox), Billy Graham, Dr. Remus Rus (Orthodox), Albu Zoltán (Reformed), Joachim Tunea (Baptist), loan Cetua (Pentecostal). Last September 6—17. Billy Graham preached in 7 romanian cities to some 150,000 people. The number of those who could not hear him on the streets was 250,000. Loudspeakers were not allowed outside churches. Presently the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is preparing a picture book and a video entitled Billy Graham in Romania. * * * AMSTERDAM 86 — Billy Graham a csehszlovák delegációval — Billy Graham with Czechoslovakian delegation (6 people). Second right of Billy Graham stands Jan Pospisil, general secretary of the CSSR Baptist Union. Billy Graham visited Czechoslovakia Ot. 29—Nov. 4. 1982. About 9000 people heard him at that time in Prague, Brno and Bratislava. His interpreter was the late Dr. Stanislav Svec in Prague and Brno, and Jan Kriska in Bratislava. There is much interest among church people and in government circles to reinvite Billy Graham to visit Czechoslovakia again on a larger scale than he was received in 1982. * * * AMSTERDAM 86 — Billy Graham a jugoszláviai küldöttekkel— Billy Graham with Yugoslavian delegates (13), one delegate is not on this photograph. To the right of Billy Graham stands Dr. Josip Horak, a vice president of the Baptist World Alliance. He was Billy Graham's interpreter when the evangelist made a stop over in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, July 9—11,1967. This was Billy Graham ’sfirst visit in a socialist country. The yugoslavian delegation represented the Serbian Orthodox, Macedonian Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Reformed, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, German Lutheran and Adventist Church. * * * AMSTERDAM 86 — Billy Graham a kubai delegációval — Billy Graham with cuban delegation (6 people). In the second row, left of Billy Graham, next to Dr. A.S. Haraszti, stands Rev. Elmer Lavastida Alfonso, pastor, Second Baptist Church, Santiago de Cuba. Rev. Lavastida is the son of B. G. Lavastida, a 98 year old mission worker in Cuba. This old man interpreted for Billy Graham 30 years ago when the evangelist made a stop over at Havanna airport in 1956. Several hundred people gathered then to hear him preach. There is much interest now among church leaders to invite Billy Graham for a preaching tour in Cuba. There are about 40 denominations in Cuba. In the Ecumenical council of Cuba, there are 14 denominations. The Roman Catholics send observers to the council meetings. We were told that all the churches are interested in inviting Billy Graham. At Amsterdam 83 we had two delegates from Cuba. In 1985. there was a book published in Cuba, antitied: Fidely la religion (Fidel and religion). Fidel Castro explains in this book in the fiamén of an interview with a woman catholic priest, jow he became disenchanted with the dead and rigid church, not with living Christians. Dr. Haraszti has been invited to visit cubaian the fore seable future. * * * AMSTERDAM 86 — Billy Graham a bulgáriai delegátusokkal — Billy Graham with bulgarian delegates. Left to right: Dr. Walter H. Smith, international vice president, BGEA, Angelinov Zarev (Pentecostal), Billy Graham, Pavel Ivanov (Congregacionalist), Dr. Alexander S. Haraszti. Three other delegates are not on this photograph: Rangel Rangelov (Orthodox), Petar Petrov (Orthodox), Stephan Maximov (Adventist). Dr. Haraszti has been conducting negotiations now for some 6 years with bulgarian church leaders and state officials about a visit by Billy Graham to Bulgaria. During a recent visit of Dr. Haraszti in September, 1986. there appeared a good probability that an invitation was forth coming. All the evangelical churches are much in favor of a Billy Graham visit. — The Orthodox Church shows interest also. Billy Graham has visited by now 7 socialist countries in Eastern Europe.
