PAGE 6 William Penn July 21, 1965 NEWS FROM NORTHWESTERN OHIO Branch 27 Toledo, Ohio By: Stephen J. Ivancso, Div. Mgr. Vacation time is here and, as one drives along the countryside, it’s a new game to check the license plates of the different states the travelers come from. Andy and Jane Feyes spent two weeks in Florida. The weather was beautiful and the country is breathtaking. Helen Zabrosky is in California visiting her daughter, Betty Jane, and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lezak of Monroe, Mich, have reason to be proud of their daughter Josephine. A 1961 Graduate of St. Mary Academy, Josephine will work on her master’s degree this summer at M.S.U. speech clinic. Miss Lezak has accepted a position with the Indianapolis public school system as a speech and hearing therapist. Best wishes, Josephine. Wedding bells — Marianne Toka and Michael Harcsa of Columbus. After a trip to California, the newlyweds will be at home at 1401 Liberty Street. Best to you. New arrivals at branch 27 — John and Sally Ufbanyi are the proud parents of a daughter, John and Agnes Mokri are especially proud, of the latest addition to the Mokri family, another son. Congratulations. Cousin Anthony Sass and his wife Ethel celebrated 31 years of wedlock on June 18. Congratulation too. Sick list — Charles Aszalós, Joseph Vislay and Mrs. Joseph Deme, Jr. Speedy recovery to all. Our condolences to Bob and Ida Kovach and their family on the recent passing of our friend, Steve Olexo (Alex); to Barbara Majoros and her family on the death of her husband Steve; and to Rev. Martin Hernady, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Church, on the death of his beloved mother in Hungary. In reporting a column and in life itself, it is sometimes difficult to put into words the thoughts that come to one’s mind I have just arrived at that point searching and reaching with a memory of what is behind me. June 10 1965 will always remain a dark day for your writer, and for the Ivancso family. Our beloved Mother passed away to her eternal rest. In the name of my Father, my brothers Frank, John and James, and my Sister Ann, I wish to thank the National Officers of the William Penn Fraternal Association for their comforting words of condolence; also the hundreds of friends and relatives who paid their last respects to our mother; to Fathers Martin Hernady, Richard Notter, Emery Ignacz and Stephen Hegedűs who officiated at the Solemn Requiem High Mass; and to our good friend, Dr. Géza Farkas, for his beautiful poetic words in the “Toledo.” The kindness you all extended shall not be forgotten! MOTOR CITY NEWS BRANCH 18 — DETROIT, MICHIGAN By: Jolán Lucas The Annual Branch 18 all-day picnic will be held Sunday, August 1st, at Magyar Park, Estral Beach, with some fancy new trimmings this year. The theme of the all-day festival will be an OLD-FASHIONED HUNGARIAN VILLAGE WEDDING (Magyar Falusi Lakodalom), complete with bride, groom and attendants in colorful native costumes. The committee chairman in charge of this part of the entertainment is Detroit’s popular and well-known Andrew Vince, who is a Division Manager of the Detroit District Office. Aiding (and abetting) Mr. Vince are Division Manager Steve Úsztok, District Manager Edward Darocy, District Agent Dr. Tibor Halo. It should be well worth the trip to the Magyar Park on August 1st to see this marvelously planned village wedding. There will be plenty of Hungarian foods, especially fánk (or Hungarian raised doughnuts), which are so wellliked by young and old. Other refreshments will be available, and sipping cold! Directions to Park: Drive straight out JEFFERSON AVENUE and follow the signs off River Road to Lake View Road. Turn left onto Lake View Road and follow signs to MAGYAR PARK — Estral Beach. Music will be furnished by Joseph Balint and his Gypsies, well-known Detroit musicians who will more than “perk up” the spirits in fun and frivolity. Donation is $1:00 per person; children under 12 years admitted free if accompanied by adults. COME ONE AND ALL FOR A FUN FILLED DAY IN THE WOODS ON THE SHORES OF LAKE ERIE — Plenty of good music, food, entertainment, fraternalism! THE BOWLING TOURNAMENT is over for another year. We here in Detroit take pride in the efforts made to make the XXII William Penn National Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days one of the best in the 22 years of this annual fraternal sports and social event. Already the big guessing game has begun. “Where next year?” Wait until the September meeting of the Board of Directors and the answer will be known. We noticed that quite a few new tournament bowlers won substantial prizes this year. Detroiters were among the many who won, and bowled, great games. It isn’t always the high average bowler who wins top prizes — it’s the little average guy or dame who bowls aboveaverage whe has the best opportunity for proving that “BOWLING IS A LIFETIME OF EXPERIMENTATION.” What happened to the two bowlers who made the Big Four Split (that’s the one called double pinochle)? I understand Joseph Vinic from Detroit made the famous split, and a young lady who bowled in the 9 a.m. squad on lánes 1 and 2 in the Thunder Bowl Arena section. These bowlers are entitled to the BIG FOUR EMBLEM from the ABC and the WIBC — and they also deserved their picture in the WILLIAM PENN! The lanes were in great shape — heard very few complaints. Plenty of space to roam around, to eat and drink. Only two members of my team I won prizes, but “they” do say that a “picture is worth a thousand words” — or even a prize. While on the subject of bowling, there are about 8 or 10 openings in the WILLIAM PENN SPORT CLUB MIXED LEAGUE, which will begin bowling at the Dearborn Moose Lanes the latter part of September. Please make your reservations NOW — two men and two women on a team. Meeting will be held sometime in August to make rules and regulations for the coming season. THIS IS THE TIME to ask for sponsors for your team — and THIS IS THE TIME when William Penn business men should offer to sponsor a William Penn mixed team, or a men’s or a women’s team for the coming season. You can always leave your names, and sponsorship fees, with Mrs. Elizabeth Rigo at the Detroit District Office, 3920 Fort Street in Lincoln Park, or call at WArwick 8-0887 for any and all information. She will relay the message to the proper “department.” Branch 18 will sponsor two men’s and two women’s teams this year. Get your bids in early — the limit is four teams! Albert Jozik (Jóczik), who is Editorial Assistant of the official WILLIAM PENN organ, did such a marvelous job of covering the great event on Memorial Day week end that your Ferret would just be repeating — and not too well — the kind words of our Albert. It was good to see the “Lad” and his charming wife, Margaret, in Detroit, and to know that one good reporter is worth the puny efforts of the “voluntary crew.” Nice going, Al! LADIES’ AUXILIARY meetings are off for July and August BUT BIG PLANS ARE IN THE FORMING STAGE FOR THE EARLY FALL AND WINTER. Watch our “spot” here for future news. DON’T FORGET THE BIG PICNIC — SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, 1965 —Magyar Park — Many out-of-town visitors will be looking for old friends. Come, join the fun. Get your tickets at the District Office — 3920 Fort — Lincoln Park; WArwick 8-0887.
