PAGE 8 William Penn National Secretary Stelkovics Honored (Continued from Page 4) Said he in part: “Twenty-five years ago ... he (Mr. Stelkovics) exchanged the teacher’s ruler for the opportunity to serve his fellow man ... his qualities ... his great service must be recognized in grateful words for in him we honor ourselves, the sturdy courage of our forefathers, the wisdom of our mothers, the strength of our youth ... he loves to serve not only his beloved society but other institutions. He loves his church . . . you read of his many services ... in local, state and national Fraternal work . . . What single force or forces motivated the teacher to become a Fraternalist? ... the everloving Father and Mother ... the discipline ... Third, his American birth ... Twenty-five years ago, Albert Stelkovics decided not to teach history, but to make history... and we must pay tribute to his charming and loving wife, Mary. .. beautiful daughter, Kathy ... his beloved fatherin-law, Joseph Vasas . . . and (they — Mr. Stelkovics and Mr. Vasas) were the bridge-builders between the Verhovay and the Rákóczi.” Indeed it is unfortunate that space is so limited that we can not reprint, in their entireties, the glowing tributes of the aforegoing three speakers. In the March, 1965 WILLIAM PENN Mr. Stelkovics honored his old and longtime friend, Joseph Poliak, with an article of affection and respect. Now Mr. Poliak had his turn to honor his former protege. The elderly gentleman reminisced about the “early days” and was liberal in his praise for Mr. Stelkovics. In the presentation of the gift for National Secretary Stelkovics, Branch 1 President Frank Bero and Branch 3 President Stephen Dikun acted jointly. In his short presentation speech Mr. Bero said: “There is nothing more that I could add to the praises already given . . . but we are pleased to have had the opportunity to tender this testimonial.. . because you have achieved through your honorable efforts our respect.” Foregoing a speech, National Controller John Sabo suggested that the entire assemblage of guests, backed by the orchestra, sing loud and in unison: “For he’s a jolly good fellow.. .” Needless to say, Mr. Sabo's novel and unique request had a most desired effect. It is natural that this gathering of fraternalists, fellow members, fellow officers, friends and well-wishers, the testimonial banquet, and especially the fine and warm speeches, had their emotional impact on National Secretary Stelkovics who would rather praise than be praised, serve than be served, and whose sense of duty exceeds his desire for recognition. His" remarks were unprepared but from the heart. He gave credit and paid tribute to his parents who had brought him up very properly, to his father-in-law who had guided his fraternal career, to his devoted wife and lovely daughter, to his fellow National Officers for their cooperation, to the Board of Directors for its progressive leadership, to Louis L.
