The Rákóczi Association was organized shortly before the turn of the century by a group of pioneer Hungarian-Americans who were men of vision and devotion to their new homeland. Bridgeport is indeed indebted to these early settlers who established exemplary social and cultural standards which have been perpetuated by their children and grandchildren. The Americans of Hungarian ancestry have contributed greatly to the growth of Bridgeport. Their fine skills and talents and customs and traditions are reflected in all aspects of our community life. Bridgeport has been enriched by the priceless heritage bestowed upon the community by its citizens of Hungarian descent. Please accept my warmest congratulations for the success of your association. You have my best wishes for continued growth.” United States Senator, former Governor of Connecticut and former Health, Education and Welfare Secretary of the U. S. also sends his best wishes to the Branch and says in part: “Congratulations to you and your fellow members of William Penn Fraternal Association (Branch 1) on this your 75th Anniversary.
