PAGE 6 November 15, 1961 William Penn WILLIAM PENN YOUNGSTOWN BRANCHES 21-108 — SOCIAL CLUB To start off this bit of journalistic small talk, we wish to note here that once again, after a few years absence from both the fraternal and insurance writing end of the William Penn, we’re back stronger than ever doing the same. Not only am I back selling insurance under the wing of Bill Koleszar in the downtown office but every month we shall attempt to offer all the William Penn news from the Youngstown area. This of course will include Branches 21, 108 and the very active Social Club. The William Penn’s 75th Anniversary accomplished a twofold purpose in this area. Aside from partaking in a tremendous celebration of our organization, more significant was the fact that the two branches with the Social Club jointly held an affair that was quite successful. Many bouquets must be figuratively handed out: General Chairman John Gober; the Social Club’s Joe Turner, and his sharp, efficient white-jacketed servers; Toastmaster John Kostyo, moving the program along; the men behind the bar; Peg Sándor, the Bunchy’s Mr. and Mrs., doing yeoman service selling tickets. But without the usual fanfare, the greatest vote of thanks must go to Mrs. Mary Lukach and the fine work accomplished by her committee in preparing the banquet meal that was not only plentiful but really good. Mrs. Lukach and her aids were the key to the entire affair. The banquet was built around these kind women. We wish to acknowledge the following members for their services on the various committees: Anne Wash, Irene Toth, Ethel Suhy, Rachel Rendes, Elizabeth Haggerty, Helen Myers, Irene Bobovecz, Anne Frew, Margaret Vrabel, Steve Sándor, Mike Tomchak, John Ashley, Lou Shrilla, Russ Turner, Frank Horvath, Les Wash, John Kostyo, Bill Bennett, Stan Vengren, Dan Gianfrancesco, John Bunchy, Peg Sándor, Margaret Bunchy, Ceil Vengran, Joe Turner, Steve Durda, Joe Yuhasz, Frank Molnár. Please excuse us if some names were missed. It’s purely unintentional. The presence of President Julius Macker and Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics highlighted the evening. President Macker made the presentation of the 50-year pins to the members who have been in the organization for a half century or more. Mayor Frank Franko welcomed the visitors and expressed appreciation of the fine fraternalism displayed by the William Penn in our community. District Manager William E. Koleszar gave a short talk on the insurance phase of our organization. WHO’S WHO! Mrs. Koleszar and Irene Gianfrancesco were enjoying themselves immensely. Our Western Pennsylvania NOTICE TO COLUMNISTS Because of insu fficient space, some of the columns had to be left out of this issue but will appear in the December WILLIAM PENN. representative, John Roller, and his charming English wife, Sheila, were seen enjoying the music of Louis Sikora and his orchestra. Johnny Kr.app, downtown poultry dealer, who provided the chickens for the dinner was there politicking for the mayor. Elmer Pitliik, popular tavern c .’iier, along with his favorite barten -r, George Nemeth, enjoyed a nite out on the other side of the “mahogany.” Walter Jambrozik and his crowd were living it up. Two Beauty Salon operators, Anne Frew and Betty Simon, were comparing notes. We wish to thank the many visitors from the neighboring towns and branches, who also enjoyed the event. Many thanks to both TV-channel 45 and the Youngstown Vindicator, especially Mrs. Anne Prezlombski, for the advance publicity. We’re grateful to Betty Locatos and her accompanist, Mrs. Stephen Záhonyi, for her rendition of the National Anthem. Branch 21 this year again will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Party for approximately 150 kids thru age 15. More details will follow in later releases. Fine fraternal spirit was shown at the recent bowling tourney at Johnstown, Pennsylvania where our Youngstown team came away with top honors. Mike Tomchak also copped the high set events. Art Szőke just returned from Rhode ' Island where he spent some Seebee training time with the Reserves. He says he didn’t lug his bowling ball with him; too much work to do. Stan Vengren, Jr., “Butch”, suffered a broken leg playing football for Campbell Memorial High. Speedy recovery, Butch. We’re saddened by the recent deaths of members Mrs. Joseph Yuhasz, wife of the Branch 108 secretary, and Andrew Hies, also of Branch 108. The Sunshine Committee reports John Nelepka in St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Joe Tomchak, George Balasko and Mrs. Joseph Demeretz convalescing at home after recent stays in the hospital. William Penn Ladies’ Auxiliaries are beginning to .appear in many of the branches, as above, the new Ladies’ Auxiliary of Branch 9, Hazleton, Pennsylvania, in which city was founded our society on February 21, 1886.
