November 15, 1961 PAGE 5 William Penn 75th Anniversary Committee of Branch 132 As this picture goes to press, the 75th Anniversary Committee of [Branch 132, South Bend, Indiana, is) working out the final arrangements for the branch’s testimonial dinner on Saturday, November 11, 1961, at the William Penn Home, which event will commemorate the Diamond Anniversary of the Association and honor former officers of Branch 132 and inembers fifty or more years in the society. Among the invited distinguished guests will be Mayor Frank J. Bruggner of South Bend, U. S. District Manager Walko Called by Death Peter A. Walko, a District Manager of the William Penn Fraternal Association since September 1, 1956, died suddenly in his home, 2018 Vermont Avenue, West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, in the early evening of October 10, 1961. He was 49 years old. He managed Branch 71, Duquesne, Pennsylvania, of which branch he was a member, and Branch 89, Homestead, Pennsylvania. His record as a William Penn field man was an outstanding one of fraternalism and production, and he was leading in sales at the time of his death. His personal character was above reproach. Mr. Walko was bom May 4, 1912 in Duquesne, the son of Mrs. Barbara Marez Walko and the late Peter Walko. An area resident all his life, he was a member of St. Stephen King Roman Catholic Church of McKeesport and its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Hungarian Club of Duquesne and the Duquesne-West Mifflin Branch of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Ann Poliak Walko; a daughter, Sandra Ann at home; a brother, John of Duquesne; and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Dudash of Bethel Park and Mrs. Dorothy Rizzo of Glassport. Friends were received at the Leo A. Maloy Funeral Home, Duquesne. Services were held Saturday with a blessing at the funeral home and Requiem High Mass in St. Stephen King Church with the Rev. Raymond Novak officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Duquesne. Officers and employees of the William Penn Home Office and field associates and fellow members paid their final respect to District Manager Walko, who was well-liked for his true Christian spirit and actions. At the obsequies Field Manager Elmer Charles acted as official representative of the William Penn Fraternal Association. Two other field associates, Regional Manager Gus G. Nagy and District Manager Fred J. Stipkovits, were pallbearers. We offer our sincere condolences to the survivors of our late brother, District Manager Peter A. Walko, faithful unto death as a member of the William Penn Field Force. Youngstown Branches Mark Association’s 75th Anniversary Well over 200 members and friends of Branches 21 and 108, Youngstown, Ohio, participated in the Diamond Anniversary celebration of the Association on Sunday evening, October 8, 1961, at St. Stephen of Hungary Chunch auditorium, marking the event with a dinner and a dance. Highlight of the affair was the presentation of 50-Year Member Emblems to those members of Branches 21 and 108 who have been, in the Association a half century or more. Veteran members present to receive their awards from national President Julius Macker were: Albert Kekk, Louis Toth, Mrs. Gabriel Czene and John Bodzas, of Branch 21; Michael Yarabik, Julius Varga, Joseph Juhasz, I, Stephen Matisz and Joseph Hajdú, Branch 108. Eligibles who could not attend were Branch 21. members Joseph Torok, Mrs. Stephen Szeibert, Frank Lederman, George Pinter, Johni Molnár, George Balasko, Andrew Rendes, John Geese, and Branch 108 members Joseph Takacs, I, John Barany, Mrs. Charles Hoffer, Andrew Debrovszky, Sr., Valentine Koszta, John Sakely, Mrs. John Kondrath. They have received their 50-Year Member Emblems thru the mail. The opening remarks were made' by John Gober, chairman of the affair, and John Kostyo, president' of Branch 108, was toastmaster of the evening. Speakers were: FRANK R. FRANKO, Mayor of Youngstown, who extended the city’s greetings and concluded by saying that he desired membership in the William Penn Fraternal Association; ALBERT J. STELKOVICS, William Penn Secretary, speaking on the significance of the 75th Anniversary, the role played by the Association through its branches in the various communities of the country, and the important recognition given the) old-timers by the Board of Directors; President JULIUS MACKER, who paid tribute to the founders of the Association and to the charter members of the Youngstown branches, and gave particular credit to the present officers and leaders of Youngstown, Ohio Branches 21 and 108; WILLIAM E. KOLESZAR, Youngstown District Manager, grateful for the cooperation he has been receiving in his own personal drive to build up the William Penn membership in the Youngstown area. Delegates and representatives of local churches and societies were well represented and were introduced. In accordance with the timehonored custom of the William Penn branches at their festive events, this program was opened with the singing . of the American and the Hungarian national anthems, with Elizabeth Lakatos singing and accompanied by Mrs. Stephen Záhonyi. A delicious Hungarian dinner was prepared by the women branch members and served by the men of the William Penn Social Club. Grace was said by the Rev. John Turk, pastor of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, and benediction was read by the Rev. Alexander Marton, rector of the Hungarian Reformed Church. The final phase of the program was the dance with Louis Sikora and his orchestra playing. CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE — L. Louis Horvath — PHILADELPHIA, PA. George Spaits, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, is permitting us to meet in the church basement EVERY FOURTH SUNDAY at 2:00 P.M. A large turnout will help put Branch 87 “on the map”. The address is 1403 North Mascher Street. October 22d was our first meeting there. — 87 — William Lehuta, one of our Illustrious Members, died recently after a lingering illness. After Mass at the Sacred Heart Chunch, he was interred in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. One of the pallbearers was our treasurer, Michael Mikula, Mr. Lehuta’s passing is mourned by the officers, members, family and friends. Requiescat in Pace! Your correspondent was also saddened to hear of the passing of Mickey Kovach, Columbus, Ohio. Since meeting in 1958 we became fast friends. Our condolences to Mrs. Kovach. — 87 — TALENT One of our new members, Miss Linda Douris, is a talented tap dancer and has appeared before various organizations. — 87 — DANCE The joint Thanksgiving Dance of our branches in Philadelphia will again be held this year on Saturday, November 25th, at the Rifle Club, Eighth Street and Tabor Road, at 9:00 p.m. A large turnout is anticipated. Admission is only $2.00. The Stephen Matey orchestra from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania will entertain. The dance will aid Hungarian schools in western Europe. Officers of both branches are on the Committee. — 87 — Mr. Micsko wishes to thank the officers for the gift they presented to him while he was in the hospital and to those who visited him and sent cards and gifts. He is now recuperating at home. — 87 — CHRISTMAS PARTY As always, a Christmas party will be held by Branch 87. The details are being worked out now. It is to be held in the basement of the Sacred Heart Church, 1403 N.
