At the branch meeting held in December, the following were elected to office: Andrew Feyes, President; Paul Lajti, Sr. Vice President; John Mokri, Jr., Treasurer; John Simon, Recording Secretary; John Rakay, Richard, Sendi and Joseph Hornyak, Auditors. William “Rip” Tinta was re-elected chairman of the Sports Club, with Julius Feyes as Vice- Chairman. Santa Claus came in a big package to the William A. Smiths — Bill got a new car that can be described as elegant. Bob Nickel had the Christmas spirit in his bowling ball. He won the annual holiday sweeper at the Marathon alleys, worth $500.00! Joe Filyo, of the Hertzfeld Olds, came in second place, just a few pins behind Bob. Congratulations to Bus Carone and his championship team for capturing the first half title in the Times Traveling Classic. After a slow start, the boys really finished strong. Other Greetings from Philadelphia, and a Happy New Year to all our members! 76-V We got a nice card from Mr. Wargyas (Kellertown) who was spending the Christmas season in Miami, Florida. Tickets for the 50th Anniversary are moving very fast. If you have not yet reserved or bought your ticket, please do so at your earliest convenience. In closing, I have a wonderful heart-warming short news item concerning the Christmas season and the Hungarian Relief drive here in Toledo: A group of school children decided that, instead of having a gift exchange in their classes, they would donate the amount of money to the needy Hungarians. I sincerely hope that other people throughout our country had the same thought during the holiday season. Many thanks, Mr. Revesz! 76-V Among those present at our Disznótoros Dinner on December 8th were Mrs. Joseph Rosenthal, the Zsamar family, and Stephen Pokorny, Sr., who brought along with him a newlyarrived Hungarian, Joseph Farkas. Mr. Farkas is staying with the Pokorny family for the time being and, needless to say, enjoys America. 76-V Ági Jámbor, Hungarian pianist, came to Philadelphia from Washington, D. C., on December 20th and gave a recital at the Commercial Museum' for Hungarian Relief. On December 27th, Nora Kovach and Stephen Rabovsky gave a ballet recital at the Academy of Music for the same cause. We are not sure what will take place in January, but the Philadelphia Orchestra Association advises us that Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra members >vill give a concert without pay for the unfortunate Hungarians on Wednesday, February 13th. It will be an all- Hungarian program; the soloist not yet being announced. We are hoping every Hungarian and every branch member will be present. 76-V The new home address of Anthony Noel, branch president, is 617 Cheyney Road, Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Be sure to look him up for new insurance. 76-V We sadly announce the death of one our active members, Stephen Liskay, who died on November 7th. We extend our sympathy to the members Öf the family. 76-V Sick members this past month were: Alexander Kaszonyi, Michael Staszko and Joseph Miko. Get well quickly, gentlemen; we’d like to see you at our meetings. 76-V We greatly appreciate the joining of our branch last month by Michael Pereszlényi and Miss Elizabeth Selleyi. Best wishes! 76-V We will be grateful for any donations to the unfortunate Magyars, We have begun the New Year and have left 1956 behind us. In this short time how many of our resolutions have we already broken? We had our annual election in December, and the following were elected to these offices: Paul Hetzel, President; Andrew Janovics, Vice President; Joseph Hodits, Controller; Frank Balogh, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Ann Barango, Treasurer; Mrs. Betty Taylor, Recording Secretary; Matt Balog, Felix Horvath, Louis Habetler, Auditors; Mrs. Rose Muhr, Lady Vice President in charge of all kitchen work. On the tag day that was held here in Chicago for the benefit of Hungarian Relief, the official report is that $125.000 was donated by the • citizens of Chicago to this worthy cause. As regards our own Branch 15-V, the entire profit from the pork dinner held in Frank Balogh’s honor was donated to this cause. It is not important to whom you send or give your contributions so long as you make it and are generous about your giving. You will be repaid a thousandfold. 76-V We shall also accept contributions to the American Museum of Immigration, New York, so that Hungarians will also be represented there. 76-V Best wishes! Fraternally, L. LOUIS HORVATH, Secretary 2107 Market Street Philadelphia 3, Pa. River Grove Moose Bowling League in the amount of $25.15. The sum total of all this amounted to $710.00. This money was turned over to the Desmond Parragh, who made the presentation through the Church World Service. Also, before I forget, William Feifar turned over to Yours Truly the amount of $41.00, of which Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rak donated $3.00 and the employees of the Woodworking Corp. of America $38.00. This truly is very wonderful: that we are able in a small share to help our fellow man in his time of need. In the “Birth Department” the stork made the following presentations: Deborah Ann to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kovach Jr., on November 30th; James Joseph to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mandziara, on December 5th; and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Bero, on Christmas Day. Congratulations to these parents. I hear that Marty Igyarto’s daughter Mary Lee was in the hospital for an operation; also the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hetzel for tonsillectomy. Nancy Sabik will not be single too much longer. I hear that she will be married in February; also Miss Ethel Fancsalski, who will be joined in wedlock sometime in May of 1957. Much luck to you two. To Charlie (The Contractor) Stuparits, who is in Columbus Hospital. We all wish you speedy recovery. Notice to Steve Ivancso: Will you ask Bob Nickel what happened in the tournament here in Chicago. To The Hungarian Emergency Relief! (Sing to the tune of “O My Darling Clementine”) By a river, at the border, and barbwire entanglements, Hand in hand ran some refugees, this time they’re Hungarians: Left their homeland and relatives, seeking aid from helping hands. They hear guns fired and flashes of lightning slashing thru with ruthless might, A falling victim, a cry to Heaven, and then silence in the starlit night. We heard their outcry for someone to help, We help them settle in our lands, We hopefully pray, and give our hearts for these escapees from cruel hands: O dear Father, who art in Heaven, look down on us just the same, Help us always to help all others, Blessed be Thy Holy Name!
