PAGE 12 January 16, 1957 William Penn AIDING REFUGEE MOVEMENT The recent holidays were spent away from home by these three ladies who volunteered their services in aiding the Hungarian escapees. They are. left to right: 'Mrs. Julius J. Lenart, Pittsburgh Red Cross secretary, now at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey; Mrs. Frank J. Cher, volunteer Social Welfare aide, in Munich, Germany; Mrs. William B. Horosz, Pittsburgh Red Cross nurse, at Camp Kilmer. They are displaying a large Christmas greeting card in Hungarian, which language they speak fluently. Mrs. Lenart is the wife of Director Julius J. Lenart and Mrs. Cher is the wife of Assistant National Secretary Frank J. Cher. WILLIAM PENN WATCHTOWER j By JOSEPH J. HORVATH — Cleveland, Ohio II1IBBBBBBIB BBBBBBBi E laBBBBIBBIIBUIUBBBBB We regret to inform our readers about the death of Joseph M. Toth on December 7, 1956. He was attending a meeting of the United Hungarian Societies at the West Side Reformed Church Hall, in regard to the Hungarian Freedom Fund. OUR CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY. The Freedom Fund card party given by Branch 14-V was well attended and the playlet directed by Julius Cincar was well received. We believe that Mr. Cincar can develop a William Penn playhouse, giving plays both in Hungarian and in English. All the local William Penn officers were present. Dr. Andrew Kovács, William Penn Director won a beautiful lamp. It is official Sigismund Kadar has remarried his first wife. I was one of the witnesses. BRANCH 14-V ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Nicholas Yuhasz, president; Joseph Semetko, vice president; Bert Szilagyi, recording secretary; Louis F. Kostley, treasurer; John Wieland, assistant treasurer; James Kovach, controller; Joseph Cristoff, house controller; Joseph Kovach and John Beres, auditors; Joseph Fekete, sergeant at arms. It was 45 to 21 to sell the home. A committee of six, Joseph M. Toth, Joseph Szalay, Julius Cincar, John Bosway, James Kovach and Coloman Kolozsvary, was appointed. This group is seeking to sell the home at a profitable price. Refreshments were served after the meeting. The Branch 14-V Children’s Christmas Party was attended by nearly 150 boys and girls. Santa was played by Steve Molnár who performed well. Motion pictures were shown by Frank O’Ravis. His daughter Patty gave a solo tap dance, coached by her mother. Branch 361-V held its Christmas Party the same day Branch 14-V did. | The small fry was well represented at the 361-V affair too. Anthony Pinter won a case of refreshments — just enough for a New Year’s party. Steve Vache, Sr. presented the Sports Club with two plastic cases beautifully done. THANKS. The Sports Club Annual Christmas Tarty was a real success. As usual, the women of the club were in charge of the food, Ann Pinter and Betty Knapp the main cooks. George Bubonic was a one man band and also a bartender. William Penn District Managers Louis F. Kostley and John Wieland were at the affair and brought their wives. We noticed that Mrs. Kostley was camera-shy. Well, anyway, the turkey was delicious and everyone had a pleasant time. A dinner for the Hungarian Freedom Fund was given by Settlers Tavern, 12906 Buckeye Road. The proceeds amounted to about $1,500. Another dinner, for the same cause, will be given by the Chagrin Valley Tavern, Route 91 and 422, January 23, 1957. Ed Sepessy, attorney at law, may be appointed to the state attorneygeneral’s staff. Steve Gasper, brother of our hall manager, works for the county clerk. We hear that Jimmy Gall will retire from his city job. Judge Louis Petrash has petitions out for his reelection as municipal judge. He has a splendid record and, in our opinion, will win again. Judge Joseph Stearns also has petitions out for his reelection as municipal judge. Considered one of our best judges, he too should win easily. The bowling tournament is breathing down our necks. The applications must be filled out and sent in. DO NOT DELAY. NOW A LITTLE ABOUT DAYTON, OHIO, THE 1957 TOURNAMENT CITY: Dayton may be rightfully called the “Home of Aviation.” The- huge aviation research center at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base has made Dayton the mecca for all men interest in the science of flight. A little over 160 years ago, however, Dayton was quite a different kind of center. The Miami valley was a throughfare for teeming tribes of Indians on their seasonal journies to and from Lake Erie and Kentucky. “Mad” Anthony Wayne, George Rogers Clark, Daniel Boone, each swept down the Miami valley with his army of Indian fighters. The Dayton standard metropolitan area comprises 194.6 square miles with a population of 526,000. Dayton is known as one of the most beautiful cities in The United States and, due largely to the use of a central steam heating system in the business district, one of the nation’s cleanest cities. Industrial Dayton provides rich opportunities for business men and workers alike. Its 730 manufacturing plants employ over 106,000 persons in producing everything from cash registers to soap. They have made the word “Dayton” mean quality products the world over. The WILLIAM PENN WATCHTOWER salutes Dayton, the borne of flight and the site of the 1957 William Penn National Bowling Tournament. Ex animo, JOSEPH J. HORVATH c. o.
