PAGE 12 January 18, 1956 William Penn POWER CITY NEWS SPRINGDALE. PA. AND VICINITY by Edward A. Mattie Branch 296 Another gala New Year’s Eve party has passed. Again the home was filled to capacity. By 8:30 p.m all tables had been taken and those who came iater than that time were disappointed. In the upper hall, the members enjoyed and danced to the music of Arthur Nagy and Joe Baldwin's combined orchestra. In the social rooms the ever popular Bluetones entertained. On this occasion we were honored by former Verhovay and Rákóczi members from McKeesport and Johnstown. * ¥ * The annual election of branch officers was held on Sunday, December 11. After serving three years as president, John Balia declined the nomination for president. He stated that because of other commitments and activities it would be impossible for him to devote the necessary time as president. He gave, however, assurance that he would continue to support and to co-operate in branch affairs. Emery Szalai moved from treasurer to president, Frank Fintor changed from secretary to treasurer. Pete This is the New Year, which we all begin with high hopes and other ideals, including the customary resolutions. Have you kept those resolutions, or were they just foolish words ? I sincerely hope that everyone had as delightful a Christmas as we had at our home. Joy was abundant at the homes that I visited during the course of the month. I am sorry that I could not visit all the members here in Chicago during- the holiday period, but time did not permit this gracious gesture. I regret to have to report the death of Mr. Albert Szoeke, who was one of the well known Hungarian insurance men. Our condolences to his wife. In reading through one of the local papers the other day, I saw an article on the auto show to be held here in January, and to my surprise, I saw the photograph of none other than Margie Wojtas. a member of our branch. Continuing the reading, I learned she had won the title of Miss Edgewater and will reign as beauty queen during this auto show. Congratulations to Margie. she and her entire family are all loyal members of Branch 15. Jr. returned from Elmhurst- College in Illinois to spend the holiday vacation with his family. There was one birth reported to me. a daughter to the Eugene Boka-s, who received a wonderful Christmas present dated December 16th and weighing 6 lbs. and 14 oz. Susan Julia is the name. I hear by the grape vine that we are going to have another marriage in our ranks, this time it will be one of the fair sex members who, 1 understand, will do it on April 21st. Dorothy Balaskovits, much happiness. By the time this article gets to publication, we will have celebrated the silver- wedding anniversary of none other than Mr. and Mrs. Charles. Stuparits. Congratulations to these two very good members. Oops Dept. This I almost forgot. As we were looking through the beautiful Christmas cards this year, we noted one that was printed Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Markos, and in ink was added, ‘ and son". Thus that makes two births and hot one. Congratulations to the Markos family. I understand that Mr. and Mrs. John Nagy of Fremont Avenue are going to retire and go to live with their son, John Jr., in Lawton, Michigan. I.ots of luck in your remaining years and a most pleasant life on the farm. Before I close, a reminder that on January 28th a dance is to be held bv Branch 15. Ail the bowlers are requested to support this dance, and every member also, as this is for the benefit of the league. Come to have a good time to the strains of Slcboda and his orchestra. Another reminder. All our members who send their dues via mail, either by check or money order, should, starting in the month of January, PLEASE MAKE these Newly Appointed District Managers FRANK WILTROUT MICHAEL PINTER Michael Pinter and Frank Wiltrout were named district managers recently and assumed their duties on January 1, 1956. The two district managers are jointly servicing Branch 132, South Bend. Indiana, and are under the jurisdiction of Field Supervisor Frank J. Wukovits who has left the direct management of Branch 132 for additional field responsibilities. This novel dual management setup points to the very large size and extensive syea of Branch 132, the .rapid growth of which is attributable to the hard working fraternal-minded Mr. Wukovits.
