PAGE IG August 15, 1956 William Perm mmmamammismmmimmiaMinsmiBBmmmimmMBgyiBaBBBBBaKBBaBaamHBm Congratulations to Frank Vámos. Frank was recently appointed Assistant Deputy Auditor of Lucas County. He is a member of Branch 27 and is a very ambitious young man. Mrs. Emery Fabos is recovering after a stay in the hospital. She is the proprietor of the “Sylvia-Ann Shop” on Paine Avenue. Bowling “spring training” is here. I see many men and women taking out their bowling bags and shoes and going to the bowling alleys. Adieu until next month. BRANCH 15-V. — CHICAGO, ILL. By: Ernest C. Taylor, Dist. Mgr. SENTINEL Well Summer is finally here — with plenty of fishing and the everso-popular “fish” stories. It seems that everyone is catching perch and pickerel in the deep waters of Lake Erie. Doubles partner and “champ” Jula Vargo promised me perch — and it’s been years ago — and still no Dsh! “Shipwreck” Belegrin caught a few, but he alleges that his house guests ate them all. My guess is that I’ll have to wait until the “reel” thing comes along. The outing for the Sports Club and the members’ families was a success. The outing will be discussed further at the August meeting. It was gratifying to see each and everyone bring along something special to share with the other members. The “Hungarian Turkey” was delicious. Hazel (Deep Sea Diver) Vischer brought along two fresh cherry pies •— and you guessed it — she didn’t even taste it! I’m still wondering if Dick Sendi had anything to do with the disappearance of those pies, lncidently, Dick lost his glasses in the water and it was Hazel who dived in to fish them out! Andy Rasi, Joe Hornyak and Paul Lajti were afraid to get their toes wet. They joined the “Stay-out-of-the-W ater Club”. Joe Zabrosky, Gary and Charles Vischer won the high-diving championship, while “Rip” Tinta look the “last-to-get-into-the-water prise." Julius Feyes was in charge of the lifeguard brigade and took good care of the children. The floating contest was won by Mrs. John Mokri, no other could compete with her. The presence of the wives added to the fun in the water and, after a good sun-burn to all, the party broke camp in the late afternoon. It seems as though Bill Smith’s family is having a bad year with broken bones. First, his pretty daughter Patty broke her legs and was in St. Charles Hospital for several weeks. Now Bill has a broken finger. He told me the the finger should be in good condition come bowling season. We sincerely hope so, Bill, for we know that you don’t like to miss your bowling activities. Mr. Michael Feyes, father of our branch president, Julius Feyes, was suddenly taken ill. We wish the gentleman speedy recovery. Being vacation time, most of Branch 27’s members are leaving the city for the woods or to distant places to see friends and relatives Gizella and Betty Bochi spent a week-end in northern Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. John Yambor just returned from an extended trip that took them to Quebec, Canada. Father Martin Hernady spent a few weeks at John Carrol University. ( I’m wondering if this can be called a vacation?) Joseph Zabrosky and his family went back to their old homestead — Windber, Pa. — they visited friends and relatives — he tells me that a week there is not enough — I wonder why??? Joe Joo, Andy and Fritz Lesinszki spent a week in the wilds of northern Canada. They caught plenty of fish ... told me that the nights were really cool. August is the last month of freedom for children of school age, as they will be going back to school shortly after the first of September. Their return to school will be a grand relief to the mothers. On the sick list this month we have our genial tailor, Mr. Eugene Herkovits, who is in the Illinois Research Hospital, also one of our old time members, Mr. Ben Kolozy, who was rushed to the hospital only last Sunday. A speedy recovery to both these members. The stork visited Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Schmierer on July 1st, presenting this young couple with a son whom they have named Ivan Louis Schmierer, 6 lbs. 6 oz. I hear by the West Side grape vine that Pancho Fodor is now back from northern Minnesota boasting he had a good time fishing. Hey, Peg, is this true? Also, the Otto Makert’s and the Alex Ronto’s are back from northern Wisconsin, but they are saying that the fishing was terrible because of so much rain. Imre Pinces of the Future Engraving Co. is sporting around in a new Buick since his nephew Alex Ronto took good care of his Kaiser in an accident. Thank goodness there was no serious injury, but I understand that the junk man gave them $50.00 for the “remains”. The Louis Fodor’s of Beauty Shoppe fame are also going to go to northern Minnesota this month for some fishing. Much luck, Lou, and I should like to eat some of those walleyes that you fellows brag about. The Steve Bama’s, Louis Panozzo’s and Geza Barna’s just returned from three weeks of vacationing. I rather envy these people as I too should like to take some time off, which I will do, but I will try not to cause any inconvenience to the membership. I will slip away only for a day or two before the children return to their studies. This will be sometime the later part of August. The only thing wrong with this is that both of my sons play baseball. Art is in the Little League and Ernie is in the Pony League, and they are frequently in games. By the way, the Norridge All Stars lost to the Villa Park All Stars in their last tournament game. You know I am like the fellow that writes the Wake of the News Column in the Chicago Daily Tribune. It takes all kinds of help to write these articles, so please be my news informant to help this column. I sincerely hope that all the local area picnics are now past. Branch 15 was represented at five or six outings last month, among them being William Penn Branch 121, William Penn Branch 130, Chicago Rákóczi, American Hungarian Wend, and the Tarsalgo Picnic. By the way, who is the person who promised me that he would show up at the Wend Society picnic but did not? ALL BRANCH 15 BOWLERS: DO NOT FORGET THAT OUR SEASON STARTS SHORTLY AFTER LABOR DAY. THOSE OF YOU WHO WILL BE ON VACATION, OR OUT OF TOWN, PLEASE CONTACT OUR SECRETARY, ANN BARANGO, WHOSE ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE ARE HERE REPEATED: 4658 NO. DAME AVENUE, EDGEWATER 4-0517. LET US HAVE A VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON. Hey, Tony, don’t forget to break out that red headpin as we will probably have some use for it this year. I understand that the Will Stuparit’s and the Ernie Tallian’s are now quartered in their new abodes. Much luck to the young couples.------------. .1 RECEIVING HER PRIZE Seated, center, is Barbara Leech, 305 Third Avenue, Eastvale, member of Branch 39-V, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, who was Individual Handicap Event winner of the Women’s Division at the 13th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament in Buffalo, New York. Presenting the trophy to Barbara is Dan Mózes, president of Branch 39-V, while to her right is Martin Szeles, manager of the branch. The event took place at a picnic Sunday evening at Rustic Park, near Ellwood City. 1 The number one winner, who bowls in the Beaver Falls City League under the sponsorship of Hamilton Awning, placed fifth in the team event. Several other members of the local William Penn bowlers also shared in individual cash awards. Other in the photograph, but not in order, are: Ann Nemeth, Mary Nemeth, Irene Vigosky, Julius Vigosky, Joseph Knapp, Joseph Szeles, Joseph Nemeth, Barth Lukacs, Anna Musuta, Dorothy Tkacik, Stephen Sabona, Lani Szeles. Players not shown are Anona Miller, Beryl Miller, Arthur Fortune, Alex Stefan. DO YOU KNOW? A record of holding his breath under water for 10 minutes and 58.9 seconds established by a member who is also president of the Marine Skin Divers Club of San Rafael, California, is reported by the American Society of Anesthesiologists in its Newsletter.
