SOMOGYI National Treasurer POWER CITY NEWS SPRINGDALE. PA. AND VICINITY t>7 EDWARD A. MATTIE BRANCH 269-V. The annual branch picnic was held on Sunday, July 15th, at Falcon’s Park, New Kensington. With rain all week long,, Sunday finally turned out to be a beautiful day. The affair was well attended in spite of the poor job that was done on the publicity. I presume everyone had a good time. The 22” power lawn mower was won by Nick Polombo’s son. Julius Telegdy won the portable electric hand mixer which was the door prize. * * * The branch bowling league held a picnic on Sunday, June 24th, at Bauster’s. It was held for the bowlers and their families. The purpose of the affair was to more or less get acquainted and to spend an enjoyable day, that is, until about five o’clock when a terrific rain storm broke things up. The group then retired to the dining room at the branch home to continue the affair. * * * Brand!) 296 extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Louis Farkas of New Kensington who passed away suddenly on June 8th. * * <¥ League bowling will start on Sunday, September 9, at 6:00 p.m. at the Trocorino Alleys in New Kensington. No new bowlers will be accepted after October 31st. Also, new bowlers must pay a $5.00 initiation fee while old bowlers pay only $2.00. This fee must be paid before one starts to bowl. An old bowler is one who had completed the previous season. Instead of collecting 25^ for the league kitty each night, kitty money will be paid at a $1.00 per week for 7 consecutive weeks. No more chasing around for the quarters which was quite a problem. A bowling ball and bag is the prize Fiat will be given in the new member contest which the bowlers are holding amongst themselves. The bowler who brings in the most new members will get the handy prize. Contest closes October 31st. * * * My sincere best wishes to Mrs. Helen Dudzinski who became ill after the bowlers picnic. Helen has been very active as a bowler and in the Ladies’ Auxiliary. * * ¥ Mr3. Julius Zimmerman was a patient at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh and is now recuperating at home... Mary Üveges and Steve “Doc” Zimerlink were patients at Citizens General in New Kensington . .. Vendell Koosz is a patient at one of the Pittsburgh Hospitals. A speedy revovery to all. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Frank Echard and family spent the last week of July at Clearfield. While there, they also attended the Clearfield Fair... Mr. and Mrs. James Beganyi and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Charles spent - their vacations in July exploring the Canadian wilderness. Mrs. Charles caught her first and largest fish among the group. * * ¥ The week of July 1 through 7 was the borough’s Golden Jubilee week. Congratulations, Springdale! On Saturday, July 7th, was the day of the big parade. Branch 296 entered a float in this event and won the first prize of $75 in its class. More about the float in the next issue, but I do wish to thank all those fine people who helped to make it and who paraded with it. President Jim Szalai has been trying to get a photograph of it for a month now for publication in the journal. I hope I can make the deadline for this column.---------------------------------Sick benefit claim payments May, 1956 (Continued from page 14) 520. V. Perini Emilio 44.56. 525. V.
