Happy birthday and anniversary wishes to those celebrating in September, especially our grandson, Lucas, who turns one this month. As always contact me if you have some info you would like to share in this article. See you soon. That's all for now! Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary Ann Kelly-Lovasz First and foremost, we've got the return of Branch 296's Bacon Roast (szalonna sütés) on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Oakmont's Riverside Park. Please come hungry! The grills will be ready at 1:00 p.m., and we'll continue until around 5:00 p.m. Find us directly behind Riverview High School at the end of the Hulton Bridge. (For GPS users, type in 200 Hulton Road, Oakmont.) Parking is available in the high school lot, within a short walk of our picnic pavilion. Follow the directional signs in the ground, approaching the park. We'll be awaiting your arrival with smiles, hugs and great food! Branch 296 provides the bacon, bread and fixings for szalonna sütés, plus kolbász, hotdogs, pop and water. If you would be kind enough to bring a side dish or dessert to share, that would be greatly appreciated. My contribution will once again be a crock of my homemade baked beans. RSVP by Saturday, Sept. 8, so we'll know how many to plan for. Call either me at 724-274-5318 or Branch 249 helped provide food and service for a picnic honoring veterans, many of whom gathered for the above photo, held July 2 / at Friendship Park in Smithfield, Ohio. Come out and relax with us at Riverside Park. Birthday greetings to all of our 296ers in the month of September, especially Josh Borland (cannot believe you are nearly in high school, buddy). Continued get well wishes to Branch Auditor John Torma, and to all of our members who are experiencing health issues at this time. We want you well in all aspects of living and pray that God grants each of you a speedy recovery. Our heartfelt condolences to each of you who have lost a loved one recently. May good memories, family members and friends carry you through this difficult time. Hello to our newest Branch 296 members. You are welcome to attend our casual meetings, and we look forward to seeing you at our branch events Please save the date to attend our branch family Christmas party at Springdale's VFW on Sunday, Nov. 25. More details will follow. School will be in session by the time you read this. Students of all ages, we anticipate your success in the new academic year. November's William Penn Life will feature this year's scholarship recipients. Are you aware that the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019? This is an incredible accomplishment, knowing that WPA has provided financial grants to literally thousands of its members. Were you a recipient? We continue to learn and develop new skills over our lifetimes. I taught my own father how to use his debit card at the grocery store when he was 91. Another fine example is WPA's Hungarian Heritage Experience that was held last month. Each year, WPA welcomes new and returning students who are curious and eager to learn and practice lessons they've learned in the Hungarian language, cooking, history and culture. Here's hoping that we can always let ourselves be open to discovery and learning. Branch 296 will resume its monthly meetings on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m., at King's Family Restaurant in New Kensington. Our remaining meetings for the year will be held on Oct. 11 and Nov. 8. We welcome you to join us and provide your input. If you have questions about your insurance coverage or annuities, you can ask our WPA agent Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF, who usually attends our meetings. You can also contact Noreen at 412- 821-1837 or at noreenbunny.fritz@ verizon.net. September is a great month to take in harvest festivals. Buy some apples or cider from a roadside stand.
