Pick up the phone and/or plan a visit. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2018. What a wonderful, busy year this has been.We started doing branch trips again. Our last was to Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek. We are planning an overnight trip to Soaring Eagle in Mount Pleasant on March 21 and 22. As always I remind you that we need your support and participation to continue doing these trips. Soaring Eagle has many things to keep you busy, if gambling is not your thing. Cost and other information will be available soon. Our next branch meeting will be on Dec. 13, when we will enjoy a Christmas dinner with our loyal adult members. We will serve a chicken dinner. Feel free to bring a dessert or a favorite side dish. We will have a $10 grab bag, if you wish to participate. As always, we will offer door prizes. This month's prizes are from Tom House. We will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Hungarian American Cultural Center on Goddard in Taylor. I hope to see you there. Thank you to all who remember our shelter animals at our meetings. They need food, treats, litter and blankets or rugs. Thank you to George Sabo, Beata Császár, Judy Schonek and Carol Truesdell for all the tabs. Please read "Focus on Fraternalism" this month (see page 3) so you can mark your calendars for next year's events. We have so many things planned for you. I am sure you will find something to interest you. I know you all enjoyed our picnic in Hiram, Ohio, so we are again renting a bus for the 2018 picnic for your convenience. Tom and I were fortunate to attend the 125th anniversary of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Cleveland. Also representing WPA were Chair of the Board Andy McNelis and wife Marguerite, Vice Chair Kathy Novak, National Director Richard Sarosi, and Branch 14 members Violet and Ernie Sarosi and JoAnne Sedensky. It was a beautiful event. Dinner was superb. I was especially pleased that Father Barnabas was a celebrant at Mass. I hope to visit the church again. It is a beautiful church. Join Hands Day is scheduled for the second Saturday in June. We beautify three different places, so, as always, we welcome your help. Happy December birthday to all our wonderful members, especially retired National Director Dennis Chobody, National Director Debbie Lewis and Home Office employee Dave Chakey. You are all so special. We wish you many more. Get well wishes to Patty Soltész, George and Doris Schvarckopf, Eleanor Kender, Beata Császár, Joe Csereklye, Pamela George and all who are not well at this beautiful time of year. We wish you quick recovery. Please remember the families of our deceased members in your prayers, especially Anna Cassar, Mary Moore and Julius Sabo Jr. May they rest in peace. I will be home most of this winter. I will be having some hand surgery in December, so I will be available for all your insurance needs or questions. Call anytime at 313-418-5572 or 734-782-4667 or 800-848-7366, ext. 107. Hope to hear from you. I came across this legend and decided to share it with you. When Mary and Joseph heard about King Herod's massacre of small children, they took baby Jesus and fled Bethlehem. Tired after their long journey, they stopped at a cave to rest. A group of spiders, wanting to protect the Holy Family, covered the cave with webs. In the morning, the webs glittered in the sun. Some say this is how the tradition of tinsel on Christmas trees began. Have a wonderful Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Kellemes Karácsonyi Ünnepeket és boldog Új Évet. Branch 27 _______Toledo, OH_______ by Paula Bodnar I sure hope everybody survived Thanksgiving and the Black Friday shopping. The next thing we know, Christmas will be here.
