Branch News Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Debbie Lewis Hope everyone is experiencing a healthy and exciting summer. I hope your weather has been great so far this summer. Independence Day, which com­memorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, will be celebrated this year on Tues­day, July 4. Take the time this day to think about all the people who have made this holiday possible. Many of us will be attending parades, pic­nics and fireworks over the holiday weekend. This day is a great way to be able to spend time with family and friends. Our branch participated in Join Hands Day again this year. Flowers were planted and flower beds were mulched at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Columbus. We had sev­eral of our members participate in this project. This activity is a great way to give back to the community. Good luck to all those participat­ing in the annual golf tournament to be held on July 7 and 8 at Chest­nut Ridge Golf Resort in Blairsville, Pa. This is a great way to meet old friends and make new ones. A Taste of Hungary Festival will be held at the Hungarian Reformed Church located at 365 Woodrow Ave., Columbus on July 22 from noon to 6:00 p.m. Come and enjoy Hungarian food, music by Steve Hegedeos and Hungarian danc­ing. There will also be Hungarian­­themed items for sale. This event is sponsored by the Hungarian Cultural Association of Columbus. Our branch will also be helping to sponsor this event. Please come and help support this local event. Save the date Aug. 26 to attend the WPA Picnic. This event will be held at the Hungarian Cultural Cen­ter of Northeastern Ohio in Hiram, Ohio. We congratulate all those cele­brating birthdays, anniversaries and new additions to their families. Get well wishes to all who have been ill or hospitalized. Hope all have a speedy recovery. We extend our sympathy to all who have recently lost a loved one. Our team has won five games and lost three games, so far. All games are played at Byers Softball Complex at St. Clair Park off of Mayflower Road and the 31 by­pass. As we celebrate the birth of our nation, please take a moment to reflect on the great freedom we all share. The date for the branch's summer picnic has been set as July 30 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. It will once again be held at Pottawatomi Park Pavilion #1 in South Bend, as the permit has already been secured. The branch will provide the main items, such as chicken and sausage, sodas and utensils, as in the past. We ask that members make reservations in advance and bring a dish to share. A special thanks goes out to Wayne Whaley and Gary Bailey for their help with our ceiling painting project. Our monthly steak frys have been put on hold for the summer. They will resume in September.
