Branch News Branch 14 Cleveland,OH by Richard E. Sarosi Happy summer and Happy July 4th as we celebrate our nation's independence and birthday. We hope that our dads enjoyed their Father's Day and our military service members enjoyed the Flag Day celebrations. Now that summer has officially arrived, we can start attending the many Hungarian activities in the Greater Cleveland area. We pray that the rain will fall gently at night and keep our gardens and flower beds growing. Thank you to the members of Branch 14 and The First Hungarian Reformed Church who participated in the Join Hands Day project on May 17. We had a beautiful evening to help get the church ready for their Memorial Day weekend dedication of the new bricks which were added to the memorial garden walkway. We bought and planted phlox, a golden azalea bush, marigolds, geraniums, red zinnias, hydrangeas and several other varieties. We tried to select flowers that are not deer friendly and are hardy. We got everything planted in two hours. Afterwards, we enjoyed fellowship over a light snack and beverage in Bethlen Hall. We were very proud of our work and colorful garden. The Cleveland Hungarian Cultural Garden is preparing for its 80th anniversary in 2018. Watch for more information in the months to come. Branch 14 meetings for the remainder of the year will be held on the following Wednesdays: Sept. 6, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6. All meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Bethlen Hall of The First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills. All Branch 14 adult members and guests are welcome to attend our branch meetings. We will host our annual branch Christmas party and "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More details to come later this year. We hope you'll be joining us for the Lake County Captains' Hungarian Heritage Night on Saturday, July Next Deadline All articles & photographs for the August issue of William Penn Life are due in our office by July 10. If you have any questions, please contact John E. Lovász tollfree at 1-800-848-7366, ext. 135. 1, at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio. There will be fireworks after the game. WPA, the Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeastern Ohio and the Hungarian Heritage Museum support this event. Please support the Hungarian events and activities found in your area and those close by. If there are Hungarian organizations in your area, join them and get involved. As we get older, we risk losing that which was brought to America by our ancestors-the Hungarian language, music, dance, costumes and traditions. We also need your continued support of the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Your monetary donations provide financial assistance to WPA student members. If you or your child was a recipient of a WPA scholarship, please remember to donate to the fund so that others can enjoy the same benefit. The officers of Branch 14 extend our sympathy to those Branch 14 and WPA members who have recently lost a loved one. May they rest in peace. Get well wishes are being sent to all of our Branch 14 and WPA members, as well as our friends, who might be feeling under the weather. We send out get well wishes to Branch 14 member Michelle Day, Dante Parete, Albert Frate and Ernie Sarosi, who was hospitalized June 7. Get well wishes also go to WPA members Betty and A1 Vargo and Arlene Csornán. Please keep them and all of our members in your prayers.
