For Starters Promoting awareness among Pennsylvania legislators HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Fraternal Alliance (PFA) held its annual Legislative Luncheon in Harrisburg, Pa., on April 25. This event brings together state legislators and fraternal representatives to promote awareness of fraternal organiza­tions and the charitable and benevolent work they conduct in the general community. The PFA, a nonprofit entity, currently represents 44 fraternal benefit societies and was founded for the purpose of uniting fratemals. Among those attending the event were (l-r) WPA National Vice President-Secretary Jerry A. Hauser, State Rep. Joseph A. Petrarca (D-55) and WPA National Director David M. Kozak. California Fraternal Alliance seeks applicants for scholarship Time remains to donate prizes for this year’s auctions WPA INVITES our members, branches and friends to donate prizes for the Chinese auctions to be held during both our annual golf tournament this July and the WPA Picnic in August. If you would like to donate a prize for either or both auctions, please call Ronda Konesky at the Home Office at 1-800-848-7366. ext. I 12, or email her at rkonesky@ wpalife.org. Remember to let Ronda know what type of prize you will be donating. Also mention if you will be delivering your prize to the Home Office prior to the auction or bringing it with you the day of the event. Please place a sign on your prize basket that includes the name of the prize basket, the name(s) of those donating the basket and the approximate value of the prize. All proceeds from the Chinese auctions benefit the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. 2 0 June 2017° WILLIAM PENN LIFE PACIFIC GROVE, CA - Since 2003, the California Fraternal Alliance (CFA) has awarded 46 Ron Gill Scholarship Awards totaling $24,000. These funds are used for the recipi­ent's college education. As a member of the CFA, William Penn Association would like to help any of its eligible members in Califor­nia apply for this scholarship. To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:- be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited vocation or technical school, college or university;- be a resident of California and a member, or child of a member, of a fraternal benefit society that holds membership in the CFA;- have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on a 4.0 system) and must submit a transcript of grades from the spring 2017 semes­ter along with their application form;- complete the application form and have it postmarked by Sept. 1, 2017; and- complete the required essay ex­plaining why the applicant feels he or she should receive the award. At least one $500 scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student. Judging criteria for the award will include the applicant's overall merits, cumulative GPA, school activities, honors, essay, and fraternal and vol­unteers activities in his or her frater­nal society. Award recipients will be noti­fied by Sept. 18 and presented their awards Oct. 7 during the annual meeting of the CFA in Long Beach, Calif.
