Branch News During their September meeting, the members of Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Mich., took time to celebrate the 76th birthday of fellow member Eleanor Kender (third from left). Branch 13 Trenton, NJ by Marguerite Beke Branch 13 invites its members and their families to the branch's annual Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 6. For more details about the party, including time and location, please call Marguerite Beke at 609-617-0471. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Richard E. Sarosi The trees are shedding their beautiful shades of gold, red and orange, letting us know that winter is not far behind. All of the szüreti bálok (harvest balls) at the churches and clubs are complete, and the costumes have been put away until next year. We hope our young members had a great Halloween, and everyone got their favorite candy. We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. The Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeastern Ohio (HCCNEO) in Hiram hosted their fall festival Sept. 13. It was a beautiful, cool day. The Regős dance troop and the St. Margaret dance group started the festivities in grand style by singing "Az a Szép" as they entered together through the kapu (gate) and proceeded to the tánc ház (dance hall). The music of The Hungarians put everyone in a festive mood, and the delicious foods available for purchase made it seem like a day in Hungary (Ohio style). Branch 14 and I co-sponsored a raffle to benefit the restroom and kitchen building project for the HCCNEO's facility. Being near the kapu selling tickets, 1 had the opportunity to hear many individuals singing as they were leaving the grounds. What a great way to end the summer. The annual pig roast at Hiram took place on Oct. 4, another sunny yet cool day. The roasted pigs were delicious, and the accompanying smorgasbord was a Hungarian's delight. It was the second and last time I sült szalonna (roasted bacon) this summer, but it was so worth the wait. Till next year! The 38th General Convention of William Penn Association convened October 11 and 12.1 will have more to share about this in my next report. The Branch 14 Christmas Party will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Bethlen Hall of The First Hungarian Reformed Church from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. All those attending are asked to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food to supplement our branch's donation to a local food bank. We also will be accepting monetary donations for the Nepal earthquake relief fund, supported by our entertainer, Ron Fowler (aka "Flower Clown"). Ron continues to work hard on behalf of those affected by this tragic event. (See Ron's story in the August 2015 issue of William Penn Life.) We are looking forward to our first-ever "Red, White and Green Raffle" to benefit Branch 14 activities. Only 400 tickets were available for sale for a chance to win one of four prizes. The drawing will take place at 2:00 p.m. Nov. 21 during the Branch 14 Christmas party. If you haven't bought your tickets, please contact Branch Coordinator Violet Sarosi at 440-248-9012. We are very close to selling out all 400 tickets, so call Violet today. We congratulate Branch 14 members Lucas J. Fulop, Sutton H. Klodnick and Laura T. Polgar who were among this year's new recipients of grants awarded by the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. We hope their school year is going well. Study hard because your education will always be with you. We ask all our members and friends to please support the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Your donations provide important financial assistance to our eligible student members. Congratulations to Branch 14's newest member, Frances M. Horvath. Fran continues the Horvath family tradition of being part of the William Penn Association fraternal family. Her husband David and children Matthew and Lauren are members, and so is mother-in-law Carol A. Horvath. The Officers of Branch 14 would like to extend our sympathy to those Branch 14 and WPA members who have recently lost a loved one. The Board of Directors lost a special friend and co-worker with the passing of National Director Roger G. Nagy on Sept. 24, 2015. Roger put up a courageous fight that was not his to win as our Lord had something better for him. We extend our condolences to his wife Charlotte, his children and their families. May he rest in peace. We also extend our sympathy to the family of Margaret Bodnar who passed away at the age of 96 in July. 20 0 November 2015 0 William Penn Life
