Young members of Branch 249 welcome Santa to their branch's annual family Christmas party in December. Branch 249 is, here's a brief summary of our activities and donations from 2013. We started in April with a Dayton Dragons baseball game, and many danced the night away at the annual Magyar Club of Dayton's Spring Dinner Dance. Then members attended the Annual Bowling Tournament and participated in Join Hands Day in May. The WPA Golf Tournament in July saw members hacking away, and August brought the annual chicken paprikas dinner and the St. Stephens Church pig roast. Yum! September brought many members to the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest. We also had our annual cabbage roll sale in September. We ended the year with the branch Christmas party. Our branch donated to a local food bank for Join Hands for Hunger, and we donated to the WPFA Scholarship Foundation through sponsorships and Chinese auction baskets at the WPA bowling, golf and picnic events. Donations also were made to local Hungarian churches and organizations. Lastly, we donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters through sponsorship of a local member, Karen Kuritar, rappelling down the 27-story Key Bank Tower in downtown Dayton. For 2014, please see your William Penn Life for information on national events and great Hungarian fraternal fun that should not be missed. We are continuing to plan activities at the local level for this year. If you have any ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me at 937-667-1211 or amschmidt@msn.com. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary A. Kelly-Lovasz Welcome to February, the month for Groundhog Day weather forecasting, Valentine's Day greetings, President's Day celebrating and the founding of William Penn Association, which is 128 years strong. We admire and honor that small group of hardworking coalminers who had the foresight to think of a way to form a common bond, and pool their resources, with the goal of taking care of their own. Whether or not they knew it at the time, this was fraternalism in action. Their humble dream lives on, and we take great pride in their efforts. Birthday wishes to our Branch President, Diane Torma, and to all of our 296-ers who will be celebrating their special day. Our positive William Penn Life 0 February 2014 0 25
