Branch News Branch 10 Barton, OH Branch 40 Martins Ferry, OH Branch 248 Monaville, WV Branch 349 Weirton, WV Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH by Joyce Nicholson Our branches held an open housestyle Christmas party on Nov. 24 at the Pizza Hut party room in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Santa saw many good girls and boys this year. Despite the cold temperatures and snow, we had a good turnout. Parents and children dropped by throughout the afternoon to talk, eat from the buffet, visit Santa to confirm their wish list, play games for prizes and receive their WPA gift bags. All in all, it was a great afternoon of fun, goodwill and holiday harmony. On Dec. 3, we donated a prize to the Clara Barton Holiday Auction to benefit area Red Cross chapters. We donated a Red Flyer wagon filled with board games and toys for children ages 3 to 7. We congratulate Branch 40 member Andy Suták on 28 years of coaching Pony League baseball. For more than a dozen years, he has been running the East Ohio Pony League. He really enjoys giving back to his community and working with kids. His love of baseball began when he was a kid listening to Indians and Pirates games on the radio. Not only does he coach, but he also keeps the fields groomed. It won't be long until warm weather arrives and it's time to play ball again. Andy Suták is the Belmont County auditor. Stay warm; bring the pets in. Spring will be around the corner before you know it. Check the next issue for upcoming events. We'll soon be planning for our Join Hands Day event. Our next meeting is Sunday, Feb. 23, at 6:00 p.m. at 63 Meadow Lane, Win-Santa paid a visit to the Christmas party hosted by Branches 10, 40, 248, 349 and 8164, tersville. For information about our branch activities, please call Joyce Nicholson at 740-264-6238. Branch 13 Trenton, NJ by Marguerite Beke Branch 13 would like to wish everyone a blessed and healthy New Year. Hope all had a wonderful Christmas with good new memories. Our family Christmas party on Dec. 8 turned out to be very enjoyable in spite of a snow storm. Although the storm kept most from coming out, we had about a dozen happy, friendly partygoers. The afternoon began at 2:00 p.m. with Branch President Anthony Beke welcoming all who braved the weather to attend. We began by remembering all our deceased members from the past year with a moment of silent prayer. Later, we enjoyed a delicious buffet of stuffed cabbage, kolbász and sauerkraut, salads and roast beef and turkey cold cuts with all the trimmings. As we enjoyed the food, we also enjoyed our guests, including the recipient of our holiday baskets, whom we had invited but did not tell why until the party. One of the recipients is blind and is in need of any help she can receive. The other two baskets were given to elderly people who truly appreciated the help. Everyone had a very good time, and the attitude of our basket recipients made us realize how blessed we are. They told us stories of so many funny things and had us laughing. After everyone ate, we gave out cans of cookies and candy. The goodie bags also were appreciated. We thank the Home Office for helping to support our party and holiday baskets. The children especially enjoyed the McDonald's coupons. For any of your life insurance needs, please call Anthony Beke at 609-617-0036. Branch 14 Cleveland, OH by Richard E. Sarosi I hope everyone is keeping warm and staying inside this winter. The awful cold spell that most of us experienced in early January was one for the weather records. Happy Valentine's Day to all our members and friends. Winter activities are minimal. The Cleveland Hungarian Veterans Ball took place Jan. 25, and I am to travel to Dearborn, Mich., for the White Rose Ball on Feb. 1. Please remember your local food banks and donate canned goods, non-perishable items or simple personal items (e.g., toothpaste, soap, tea, pancake syrup, peanut butter, jelly and even feminine products). Hunger is experienced throughout the year, not just at the holidays. Please remember those who are less fortunate or those who are experiencing hard times. 20 0 February 2014 0 William Penn Life
