Branch News efit the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead. The event will once again be held at the Westwood Golf Club and promises to be an enjoyable event. We look forward to seeing many of our branch members and, we hope, officers and Board members from William Penn Association. Some of the prizes for the event include autographed memorabilia from the Steelers (such as the Chuck Noll-autographed football shown right), Pirates, Arnold Palmer, Adam Scott, Hunter Mahan and several other personalities. We will be teeing off at noon on Aug. 17. Price is $80 per person, which includes greens fee, cart, a hotdog and refreshment at the turn, and dinner. The price for dinner alone is $25. We will be mailing 50-50 raffle tickets and brochures for our outing within the next week. Last year, we had a member from Florida come to golf in this event. Who will come the furthest this year? It promises to be a very fun event which will benefit many. If anyone has any questions on the event, please call Golf Coordinator Mark Maskarinec at 412-872-5022. We're also looking for hole sponsors and volunteers for this event. Branch 89 is also collecting codes from Coke products. These codes will be turned into points which can then be redeemed for various merchandise and prizes to be used at our outings. Golf Outing Coordinator and Branch Auditor Mark S. Maskarinec said the breakdown is as follows: • Bottle cap = 3 points • 12-pack = 10 points • 24-pack = 18 points • 30-pack = 25 points. These points add up fast for valuable prizes; such as gift certificates, tote bags, etc. We distributed many at the golf outing last year. Anyone with any codes can email them to Mark at maskarinecl836@comcast.net or send them to 1836 Timothy Drive, West Mifflin, PA 15122. Branch 89 would also like to congratulate the Rev. Judith E. Tobias, the Licensed Minister of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead, on her recent graduation from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Rev. Tobias will be preaching at the Homestead church starting on June 30. Rev. Tobias and her family are pleasant additions to our Branch 89 family. We also thank Rev. Tobias for allowing the Golf Prize Committee the opportunity to hold a meeting during her graduation party. Talk about multi-tasking. Branch 89 continues to thank William Penn Association and its officers for its continued support and hopes everyone will be able to get out and truly enjoy this lovely weather. Upcoming events for our branch include a night at the casino, dinner at Dave & Buster's in Homestead and WPA's Annual Golf Tournament at Quicksilver. What a fun and active time this promises to be. Please contact the branch coordinator if you'd like to see other activities. We'll do our best to accommodate those requests. For any of your life insurance needs, please call Ruth Toth at 412- 461-5812. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Debbie Lewis Hope everyone is having a great summer enjoying the beautiful weather. Now is the time many families are taking vacations, so please be safe in all your travels. The 4th of July is the birthday of our nation. Let's celebrate and enjoy the freedom that comes with the event that made this day so special. Take time to celebrate this day with relatives and friends with a picnic or attending fireworks. Our branch again participated in two projects for Join Hands Day. Flowers were planted and flower beds were mulched at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Columbus. We also cleaned out flower beds, planted flowers, mulched and placed landscaped garden bricks at the YMCA in Urbancrest. Both projects turned out beautifully. These activities are a great way to give back to the community. On Sunday, July 14, there will be another Soup and Learn Program at the Hungarian Reformed Church located at 365 Woodrow Ave. in Columbus. The program will be held after the 10 a.m. service. Soups will be served at 11:15 a.m. with the 90-minute program starting around 11:40 a.m. The July program will feature Andrew Check, a 21-year-old cimbalom player from Youngstown performing Hungarian folk songs. The Taste of Hungary Festival will be held on July 20 from noon until 7:00 p.m., also at the church. The day will feature Hungarian food, music and dancing. There will also be face painting and games for the kids. This event is sponsored by the Hungarian Cultural Association. We are in the process of organizing a bus trip for the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. It is really a great time of fun, food and fraternalism. Please get your reservations in by Aug. 6. The cost of the bus trip will be $30 per person. Also, the admission to the picnic for our group is $12 for adults, $5 for students and children under 12 are admitted free. If you are interested, please contact Marge Boso at 614-875-5068. We extend congratulations to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. Congratulations to all who have new additions to their families. We extend our sympathy to all who have recently lost a loved one. Keep all in your thoughts and prayers.
