EVERY MAY, WPA members enthusiastically embrace the spirit of Join Hands Day and spread the Fraternal Spirit by performing and supporting benevolent and charitable works which benefit their local communities. In Columbus, Ohio, Branch 129 members participated in two projects. Members Olga Kovács and Margaret Leonardo (photo I) help plant flowers at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Columbus, while branch members joined other volunteers in landscaping the YMCA in Urbanville (photo 5). Members in Southeastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia, belonging to Branches 10, 40, 248, 349 and 8164, conducted several Join Hands Day projects. One involved donating an auction basket to the Children’s Bereavement Foundation for their inaugural fund raising walk (photo 2). WPA member Joyce Nicholson (right) presents the basket to Brittany Lamp, president and founder of the Foundation. In Mayville, Wise, (photos 3 & 4), young volunteers plant flowers and shrubs on the grounds of St. Mary Catholic Church. The project was made possible by a generous donation from WPA Branch 705 Mayville. 14 0 July 2012 0 William Penn Life
