Life 0 May 2012 0 3 NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - National President George S. Charles, Jr., was presented the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Award by the American Hungarian Foundation during its 49th Annual Carousel Ball. The ball was held April 21 at the Hungarian American Athletic Club in New Brunswick. The award is inspired by the life, works and words of Abraham Lincoln, who often spoke of the great role immigrants and their descendants play in American life. President Charles was recognized in particular for his 38 years of service to William Penn Association and its members. As National President for the past 16 years, he has served as the voice of the Association and guided its efforts to preserve and promote the Hungarian language, culture and traditions in America. "I am proud of my Hungarian heritage and cultural background," President Charles said in accepting his award. "I am humbled by the stories of our grandparents and great-grandparents who left everything in their homelands to bring about progress and hope to a new generation in a new world. With them they brought the precious values of family, church, community, respect for life, respect for education and hard work. These precious values are fundamental and our legacy to pass on to our children and grandchildren." Among those attending the ball were the entire WPA Official Family and several members of the Home Office staff. Also sharing the moment with him were his wife, Dianne, and son, Steve, whom President Charles thanked "for the enthusiasm and love which keeps me in proper perspective of how good my life is with the two of you always by my side." Also honored during the ball, receiving the Foundation's Distinguished Service Award, was the Jeney Family, owners and operators of The Schenck Insurance Agency in New Brunswick. □
