We apologize for the error. 2 0 January 2011 0 William Penn Life Historic election Barbara House elected first female chair of WPA Board PITTSBURGH — In a historic vote, the WPA Board of Directors Dec. 10 elect­ed Barbara A. House of Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Mich., as its new chair, making her the first female chair of the nation's oldest and largest Hun­garian fraternal benefit society. "I am deeply honored," Mrs. House said, "and I am very lucky to have the opportunity and privilege of working with people I love." Mrs. House brings to her new posi­tion a wealth of experience in serv­ing the Association and the fraternal benefit system on the local, state and national levels. She has been a mem­ber of the WPA Board for 17 years and has served as vice chair of the board since October 2007. She also has represented WPA at the Michigan Fraternal Congress (MFC), serving on numerous MFC committees. All the while, she has continued to be a leader at Branch 18. Under her leadership as branch president, the branch continues to be one of the Association's largest and most ac­tive branches, conducting numerous fraternal, social and charitable events every year and supporting many Hungarian organi­zations in Detroit and the surround­ing area. Mrs. House began her pro­fessional career in cosmetology, working as an in­structor at the Michigan State College of Beauty. She owned and operated her own business, Barbara's Hair Gallery in Southgate, Mich., for nine years before assuming a position as a promotional representative for J.R. Marketing. Mrs. House is also very active in the affairs of the Hungarian Ameri­can community. She is a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, the Hungarian Arts Club of Michi­gan, the Hungarian Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh and many other Hungarian organizations. She resides in Brownstown, Mich., with her husband Tom.
