For Starters 'Experience' fully booked PITTSBURGH - The WPA’s annual Hungarian Heritage Experience, scheduled for Aug. I to 7 at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa., is fully booked for this year. Anyone wishing to be placed on a waiting list should contact Endre Csornán, National Vice President- Fraternal, at I -800-848-7366, ext. 136. We thanks those members and friends of the WPA who have signed up for this year’s Experience and look forward to hosting them for what is sure to be a most memorable week. □ Help make our Chinese auctions successful Members and friends who attend our annual golf tournament or picnic at Scenic View know that part of the fun is participating in the Chinese auction held at each of these events. These auctions raise thousands of dollars for our Association’s Scholarship Foundation, which assists young members seeking a higher education. The success of these auctions depends not only on your generosity as ticket buyers but also on those members, branches and businesses who donated prizes for our auctions. Without prizes, there would be no auctions; without the auctions, there would be less money available for scholarship grants. If you would like to donate a prize for one of this year’s Chinese auctions, please call Ronda at the Home Office at I -800-848-7366, ext. I 12. Prizes for the golf tournament auction must be sent to the Home Office by July 14; prizes for the WPA Picnic auction are due at the Home Office by Sept. 6. On behalf of our scholarship grant recipients, we thank you.O Completing a successful Food Drive In May, a representative from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (R) visited the Home Office to accept donations of food and $421.08 raised during the WPA’s Food Drive 2010, from National Vice President-Fraternal Endre Csornán. Millville Letters Scholarship grant helping member to achieve goals I WISH TO EXTEND my sincere thanks for your generous scholarship award. With your financial help, I am well on my way to achieving my academic goals. I graduated May 2, 2010, with a bachelors of science degree in psychology with a minor in conceptual foundations of medicine. I also graduated magna cum laude with a final grade point average of 3.56. In the fall I will continue my studies to attain my masters degree in school psychology at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. IUP has offered me a graduate assistant position which includes full tuition. Once again, thank you for giving me the honor of being a recipient of this distinct scholarship and for your help in achieving my academic goals. Sincerely, Dean R. Holtzman University of Pittsburgh, Class of 2010 Food Bank puts WPA donation to good use ON BEHALF of those we serve, I would like to thank you for your recent gift totaling $421.08 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, collected from various individuals. Funds raised through efforts like this one help Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank distribute more grocery items to more agencies across our service region, ultimately helping more people to access food assistance. We are especially grateful for your support in what everybody knows is a tough economic year. The Food Bank has been serving an average of 2,000 new households each month, so your support is especially critical and appreciated. We often remind ourselves, and our supporters, to think of how life might be for the many thousands of people living in poverty, and those living on the edge of poverty, in southwestern Pennsylvania. No one who uses any of the 380 pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters we support wants to feed themselves and their families this way, but we will be there when they need us. We are grateful for the contributions of organizations like the William Penn Association, and in fact, could not accomplish all that we do without this support. Thank you for your continued commitment to helping those in need. Sincerely, Patty Van Buren Special Events & Food Drive Coordinator 2 ° June 2010 ° William Penn Life
