For Starters ‘Hungarian Guitar’ returns to Cleveland "Singing the Legacy of Freedom," a 9-foot-tall guitar created as a tribute to the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, has returned to the city of its origin, Cleveland. The guitar is the work of artist Krisztina Lazar, daughter of Branch 14 Cleveland member Andrea Lazar. The guitar incorporates photographs of actual Freedom Fighters, images of Hungarian legends and the words of President John F. Kennedy. It was created as part of the United Way of Greater Cleveland's "Guitar Mania" fund-raising project in 2007. It was purchased at auction by the WPA and had been on display in the Home Office until this June when the WPA loaned it to the Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Museum. The guitar now stands in front of the Galleria at Erieview shopping mall at the comer of E. 9th Street and St. Clair. To learn more about the guitar, visit the WPA website where you can read our interview with Ms. Lazar in the January 2008 issue of the William Penn Life.
