Then add onion, sauerkraut and kolbász rings. (You can substi­tute turkey sausage, if you like.) Add bacon bits, paprika, caraway seeds, bay leaf and garlic powder. Add more water to cover the mixture and simmer until the rice is done. Turn off the soup and stir a few tablespoons of the hot liquid into sour cream. Dump this mixture back into the soup, stir well and let sit to blend in flavors. Serve hot (or it’s really good the next day). Cabbage Rice Soup 1 cup white rice 3 to 4 cups water A medium-sized head of green cabbage, sliced I large onion, sliced I large can crushed or diced tomatoes I bay leaf 1 teaspoon salt 'A teaspoon black pepper A teaspoon garlic powder I teaspoon basil (optional) I can tomato soup Add rice to 3 to 4 cups leftover hot strained pasta water (or just plain boiling water) and simmer. Add cabbage and onion to the rice. Add can of crushed or diced tomatoes. Rinse out can and add enough water to cover simmering cabbage and rice in pan. Add bay leaf, salt, pepper, garlic powder and basil. Continue simmering all together until rice and cabbage are well done. Then add can tomato soup (and more water if needed) to smooth it out. Serve hot or reheat the next day. Green String Bean Soup 4 cups fresh green beans 2 quarts spring water 1 tablespoon salt 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons flour I small onion, finely diced A teaspoon paprika A teaspoon chopped parsley 4 tablespoons sour cream I tablespoon white vinegar Cook the beans in boiling water with the salt until they are tender. Brown the onions in a small skillet with the butter then add the flour. Mix well then add this mixture to the green bean pot, stirring all the while. Add the vinegar, paprika and parsley. Stir in the sour cream just before serving. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the top and serve warm to your guests. Crazy Beans 1 pound bulk or rope Italian sausage or kolbász 2 cups chopped onions I cup sliced celery I cup brown sugar I tablespoon yellow mustard I can tomato soup I small can tomato paste I can pork-n-beans I can butter beans I can hot chili beans I can chick peas 1 can kidney beans I can black, red or white beans I can cut green beans I can yellow wax beans Brown sausage, drain and slice into rings.
