Branch News Members enjoy the entertaiment at Branch I8’s family Christmas party. Young members gather during Branch 2 7 Toledo’s annual family Christmas party. U.S. and Hungary, to protect and preserve the rights of Hungarian minorities throughout the world, and to support economic development in Hungary. We learned so much. We also enjoyed a Christmas party which was attended by April Foley, the U.S. ambassador to Hungary. Thank you to the Hungarian American Federation for their hospitality. The weekend ended with a viewing of the movie, "Tom from the Flag," about the 1956 revolution. The WPA was a contributor to the making of this film. I have always been proud of my heritage. After this weekend, I am even more proud. Can that be possible? We were accompanied by our spouses. Bill Bero brought along his son Byron, who was home on leave from Iraq. Nothing like those uniforms. You may rest assured that the Official Family of the WPA will always do our best to keep you informed and knowledgeable. I will be in Florida from Feb. 6 to 28. Too much to do this year to stay away longer. I am always available at my cell number, 313-418-5572. Happy Valentine's Day. Stay warm, and think Spring. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Happy 2008! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Thanks so much to the Home Office for allowing Branch 28 to host another successful and enjoyable Christmas party. Entertainment was provided by the Aut Mori Clowns, a volunteer group who perform for a donation to help handicapped children. Andrew Check II provided background music on his cimbalom for the afternoon. Andrew lives in Chesterland, Ohio, and is very proud of his Hungarian heritage and loves playing the cimbalom. He is always willing to share his talent at gatherings. If interested, you can contact him at 440-729-9184. Santa (John Tollas) arrived to the time of "Jingle Bells," led by Evie Byers and the children. Santa visited the crowd before helping draw the raffle winners and distributing gifts to the children. The holiday scholarship raffle winners were: Frank Schauer ($100), Art Szőke ($50), Ed Crump (Hungarian doll) and Dee Gran (lottery frame). As always, plenty of food and refreshments were available. We thank everyone who helped make this event go so smoothly. A special thank you goes to retired National Director Mike Tomcsak and Joan Mauerman for taking time to attend our party. Following the party, a brief meeting was held during which we elected officers for 2008. Those elected were: Steve Novak, president; Frank Schauer, vice president; Kathy Novak, secretary-treasurer; and Mary Schauer and Maria Goda, auditors. Special congratulations go out to Air Force 1st Lt. Mike Kripchak for recently being awarded an achievement medal for providing research that resulted in the publication of five journal articles which helped move the Air Force closer to its goal of a deployable super-computer. Mike is stationed in Hanscom, Mass. His proud parents are Joe and Ethel Kripchak. Get well wishes to all those not feeling up to par these days. 16 William Penn Life, January 2008
