Happy birthday, mom and Gabby's grandma. Love you. I am thankful for the wonderful trip we had to Hungary. There were nine WPA members in the group of 22 people. We saw most of the country. We also spent a night in Slovakia. We were lucky enough to meet some great border guards who let us walk across the Austrian border, as long as we had a passport. It was the first time for many to see guards with guns and lookout towers. It gave you a sense of what it must have been like prior to 1991. We enjoyed food and liquors we never thought we would. Some even rode horses; I didn't, but Carol and Tommy did. We heard music to die for. The hotels were super. What more can I say to entice you to take your own trip to Hungary? I am working on a trip for next year, perhaps toward the end of August. Please let me know if you would be interested. Please remember the White Rose Ball on Feb. 2,2008. It will be the 50th anniversary ball. I plan on not going to Florida until after the ball. Please contact Linda Enyedi for information. The Hungarian Arts Club is also looking for recipients. If you have ever been a debutante or an escort, they would like to hear from you. Call Linda at 248-352-0927. Get well wishes go out to Elsie Kantor, Douglas Truesdell, Ethel Farkas, Marilyn Kadi, Judy Beri, Elizabeth Szabó and Andy McNelis. Get well soon. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Can it really be that the holidays are sneaking up on us so soon? Santa will be visiting the Branch 28 family Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 12:30 p.m. at the Monastery (Shrine of the Afflicted) on Belle Vista Avenue. It will be a fun-filled afternoon with songs, food, fun, prizes and gifts. The invitations will be in the mail, so keep an eye out for them. In conjuction with the Branch 28 party, there will be the drawing of the holiday/scholarship raffle and the election of branch officers. The Youngstown Hungarian community once again will be observing the traditional Thanksgiving vesper services. Please check your local church bulletin for more information. WOW! What can one say about the great WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest? Once again, Endre Csornán, the Home Office and all the volunteers did a fantastic job. Each year the picnic seems to have more people, more food and more fun. Thanks to everyone who did all the work. Branch 28 once again traveled with our full bus to attend this great day. Joining us this year were our dear friends (really, extended family) from New Jersey and Florida. Six members of the Lew Molnár family (representing four generations) made the trip to Youngstown in order to travel with us. They were the lucky winners of the bus raffles. As always, it was great seeing and visiting so many of our WPA friends. It was nice to see our dear friends, retired National Director Mike Tomcsak and Joan Mauerman, who traveled with us. 1 Lucky Chinese auction winenrs included members of the Schauer, Roscoe and Novak families. So the space vacated on the bus by our basket donations was refilled with baskets won by our members. I regret I was unable to participate at the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Darr Mine disaster on Sept. 29. Branch 28 was represented by Frank and Mary Schauer and Leslie and Irma Polgar. Photos of the event can be found on the WPA's website. Congratulations to Branch President Steve Novak on being a winner in a recent WPA puzzle contest. During our November branch meeting, we will honor our 50-year members. Invitations for this special event will be sent and notices will be placed in church bulletins and local newspapers. Best wishes to all those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries this month, especially Helen Kaluczky on her 90th birthday. Sincere condolences to all those who have recently lost a loved one. We especially remember Frank Boricz who recently passed away in the Cleveland area. His orchestra played at many WPA social gatherings. If you have any news to share with your fellow members, or would like information about WPA life insurance and annuities, then please call Kathy Novak at 330-746-7704 or Alan Sazbo at 330-482-9994. We wish everyone a blessed Thanksgiving. William Penn Life, November 2007 17
