Branch News Branch 13 Trenton, NJ by Elsie H. Radvany Branch 13 will hold its family Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hungarian Reformed Church Auditorium, Grand and Beatty streets, Trenton. The event will begin with a short meeting during which we will elect officers for 2008, followed by the party. Food, refreshments and goodies will be served. Branch 13 is again donating a Holiday Basket to the needy in our area. The WPA held its 36th General Convention on Sept. 3 to 5 in Pittsburgh. The by-laws were reviewed and amended. The major changes in the by-laws were the elimination of the National Auditing Committee and the expansion of the Board of Directors from 12 to 14 members. Endre Csornán was elected by the Board to the newly-created position of vice president-fraternal. Branch President Frank J. Radvany informed the Board that he would not seek reelection as a director. The Board later elected him to serve as secretary to the Board. The Convention ended with the delegates donating $35,000 to the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. The Association held its annual WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest at Penn Scenic View on Sept. 15. The weather was beautiful and more than 900 people attended a fun-filled day featuring plenty of food, refreshments, music and fraternal fellowship. The Chinese auction awarded 69 prizes to those lucky enough to hold winning tickets. Our sincere thanks go to Endre Csornán and his many loyal volunteers who worked many hours to make this event very successful. Congratulations to Andrew and Michael Gordon, both members of Branch 13, and sons of Arlene and Lee Gordon, on being named recipients of scholarship grants through the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Andrew is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in electrical engineering, while Michael is in his freshman year at Syracuse University. We congratulate all who received grants from the Scholarship Foundation. For servicing your life insurance and annuity needs, please contact Elsie H. Ward We have been enjoying a wonderful Indian summer this fall, along with watching the Cleveland Indians, who were American League Central Division champions and came within one victory of making the World Series. Branch members enjoyed our annual outing to an Indians' game this summer and our vociferous cheering must have inspired them! The WPA made a generous donation of $1,000 to the Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society, which was to hold its 11th Annual Vintner Dinner Oct. 27 at Cafe Sausalito in the Galleria at Erieview to benefit the Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Museum. The formal dinner and gala evening were to include comparing Hungarian and other varietals at dinner featuring the cuisine and wines of Hungary. The Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society opened its first museum at St. Elizabeth's Church on April 20,1986. In September 1996 it moved to the Richmond Mall and in May 1999 to Euclid Square Mall. The museum doors were reopened to the public March 15,2003 at the Galleria at Erieview, 1309 E. 9th St., Cleveland. Along with a marvelous gift shop, there are interesting exhibits. The Cleveland Hungarian Heritage Society has been working to organize its significant archival library collection. My husband Jeff, daughter Erin, and I have visited the museum numerous times, and Jeff and I were looking forward to attending the Vintner Dinner again this year. The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and I would highly recommend it. The branch welcomes the following new members: Legend McGrady, Legion McGrady, Jamie Varga, Dolores Dubics, Shannon LaRosa, Theresa Kraynak and Ava Bodovetz. Contact the Ward Agency at 440-838- 1200 with names of potential new members and earn Recommender Bucks. Mark your calendars for the annual children's Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 8. All juvenile branch members (age 12 and under) will receive a personal invitation, but all branch members are welcome to attend. The next branch meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethlen Hall of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, 14530 Alexander Rd„ Walton Hills, Ohio. We will be holding our annual election of officers, so please plan to attend this important meeting. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House Happy Thanksgiving to all our wonderful members.
